With any significant moment in the gaming industry, it is almost inevitable that the memes will naturally spawn from the communities across the internet. While these memes often come from the dedicated fandoms, at times developers and publishers are very ready to get in on the action. Despite Spider-Man: Miles Morales fans already starting the meme train for the game, Insomniac opted to reconfigure a classic meme with an very cool overhaul.
As Insomniac Games celebrates the recent release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the developer decided to share an amazing GIF on Twitter. The GIF is a recreation of the now iconic dancing Shaquille O’Neal vs dancing cat meme, although this time with the developer being able to use some high quality models at its disposal.
The GIF swaps out the original duo for the titular character of Miles Morales doing his best pouty lip Shaq impression, dancing against the one and only Spider-Cat. It is hard not to smile at the goofy GIF which Insomniac touts as pure elation. The text considers that the excitement for the pseudo-sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man can only be understood through the excitable gyration of the Miles and his feline companion.
It’s undeniably charming to see the beloved GIF come to life in an entirely new context all while embracing the excitement of a new console launch title. The PlayStation 5 has officially launched in all major territories with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales being one of the most notable launch titles. Insomniac knows its fanbase is deeply invested in retuning to the web-swinging action that made the original game such a giant hit, but this time with a bunch of new tricks for an entirely new web-swinger.
While Insomniac is starting early, with new consoles out in the wild the memes will likely keep rolling in. The PlayStation 5 launch is also coupled with two games likely to generate more memorable memes with the first being the remake of Demon’s Souls. Souls games have always generated great memes and with many players trying Demon’s Souls out for the first time, there are likely many more to come. For some, the other notable title is Bugsnax which has already caused quite a bit of interest following its bizarre reveal trailer.
While many players are only just getting their PlayStation 5 consoles in through delivery, those waiting can always stay mesmerized by Insomniac’s amazing Shaq tribute for its recent release. With Miles Morales already doing well with critics, the wait for fans is only going to be harder.
