Spider-Man Remastered Players Should Avoid Putting Their PS5s in Rest Mode

Spider-Man Remastered has officially launched, and while it is likely a joy for many to swing through New York once again, players may want to be careful whenever they take a break from re-living Peter Parker’s story. It seems that putting the PS5 into rest mode while playing Spider-Man Remastered can crash the whole system for unlucky players, requiring a full external drive repair.

It seems like webbing up criminals and finding Spider-Man Remastered’s boat people easter egg is not going smoothly for players who shut off their systems mid-game, as the game crashes the entire PS5 console if shut off temporarily. The “repair your external drive” process takes a good bit of time after restarting the console too, and it seems like the bug has happened multiple times to one unlucky gamer.

Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann has shared the negative experience with the PlayStation 5 console crashes on Twitter, and his post serves as a warning to not put the system in rest mode while playing this specific game. It is also worth noting that the PlayStation even has problems after each external drive repair, requiring a second manual restart to get players back into the game.

When a fix will be released is unclear, though this is hardly the first problem players have had with the latest PlayStation console. Apart from other players reporting issues when powering off the PlayStation 5, one YouTuber’s PS5 has completely died already. While rare cases of malfunctioning tech come about with every major console release, it is still a shame that some players are struggling to enjoy their first days with the PlayStation 5.

This is hardly the first time Spider-Man Remastered has been embroiled in controversy, however, as the game has seen its fair share of discussion on some in-game changes. The supposed removal of the game’s Avengers reference caused uproar before it was confirmed to still be a part of the game, and the leadup to Spider-Man Remastered’s launch has been centered around Peter Parker’s new face. For what should have been a safe and exciting re-release of the beloved game, there has been a surprising amount of negativity surrounding it.

Hopefully, this latest issue gets fixed fast, as it has an actual impact on the overall gameplay experience and the performance of the PS5 console itself. Once the crashing stops, players should be able to go back to exploring New York in Spidey’s stylish new suits and shutting off the game naturally whenever they are finished.

Spider-Man Remastered is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5.
