Cyberpunk 2077 Trophy/Achievement List Has John Wick, Matrix Easter Egg

An achievement in the recently leaked trophy list for Cyberpunk 2077 acts as a reference to many things, but possibly the biggest of them would be John Wick and The Matrix. These two films star Keanu Reeves, possibly one of the most beloved celebrities on the internet, and the actor behind Cyberpunk 2077‘s Johnny Silverhand.

For those out of the loop, the GoG Galaxy app, a digital distribution platform for video games, leaked Cyberpunk 2077‘s trophy list online. Luckily, the list doesn’t reveal any hidden trophies, so there aren’t any major story spoilers to worry about, which means interested fans can pursue it to their leisure. Some have already, and they’ve discovered that one of the list’s trophies acts as a possible easter egg to both John Wick and The Matrix.

The trophy in question is called “Gun Fu,” which is a fictional style of martial arts that sees the stylistic handling of firearms for close combat. Another name for it would be “Gun Kata.” The tabletop game that Cyberpunk 2077 takes its inspiration from, Cyberpunk 2020, uses Gun Fu as one of its fighting styles, but it’s not the original creator of the idea. Movies like John Wick and The Matrix are what actually popularized it. John Wick and The Matrix aren’t the first to use it, of course, but for obvious reasons, they’re the best examples.

The description of how to pop the trophy even sounds like something out of John Wick. It requires players to kill up to three enemies in quick succession using a revolver or a pistol. John Wick is well known for pulling this off with a pistol; although, he can do it with other firearms as well. If that weren’t enough, there’s even a trophy called “You’re Breathtaking,” which is another Keanu Reeves reference. He famously told the crowd of attendees at the 2019 E3 showcase that they were breathtaking.

It’s important to note that the list of leaked trophies is real. CD Projekt Red’s Global Community Lead, Marcin Momot, pretty much verified it on Twitter. When a fan tweeted out a warning to watch out for Cyberpunk 2077 spoilers, Momot was the one who confirmed that none of the major story trophies had leaked. He also said that CD Projekt Red would have liked the trophy list to remain private until release.

It’s unfortunate that the trophy list leaked so far ahead of Cyberpunk 2077‘s release, especially considering how hard it’s been for Projekt Red to get the game out. Hopefully, the game’s road to launch becomes a little smoother as its release date draws closer.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases on December 10, 2020, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
