Nioh 2 Final DLC Release Date Revealed | Game Rant

Nioh 2 has finally returned to the spotlight following a big information blowout by Koei Tecmo. The publisher recently announced a Nioh 2 Remaster and Complete Edition package for 2021, alongside confirmation of the long awaited PC port. With PC player finally happy to have a crack at developer Team Ninja’s Souls-like samurai sequel, PlayStation 4 players are still waiting on some outstanding DLC.

Koei Tecmo confirms that while PC and PlayStation 5 players will have to wait until February for a Nioh 2 complete bundle, existing PlayStation 4 players won’t have to wait all that long to conclude the journey. Nioh 2‘s “The First Samurai” DLC expansion will be available on December 17 and be the last of the three confirmed DLC packs.

The First Samurai DLC is touted as something Nioh 2 fans don’t want to miss out on. According to the Official PlayStation Blog that announced the release date, it’s going to be a “thrilling conclusion.” The story will see the protagonist go back in time to one of the most significant moments of samurai lore. The name itself refers to the very legend that birthed the first Samurai as told to the protagonist by their mother. Beyond the story, the main thing that will likely drive interest from Nioh 2 fans is the introduction of a new difficulty mode. With Nioh 2 still highly regarded as a Souls-like game, players are always looking for a harder time.

The December release for “The First Samurai” comes over nine months since the sequel to 2017’s Nioh released back in March.  Nioh 2‘s first DLC pack was “Tengu’s Disciple” which released at the end of July, followed by the “Darkness in the Capital” expansion in October. Each pack introduces a bevy of new content including new missions, armor, weapons, enemies, and story content to keep burning spirit of the samurai alive against the demons.

While PlayStation 4 players have the final DLC pack to look forward to, those who have never known the thrill of Nioh‘s Oni hunting action can rectify the issue come February 2021. While the aforementioned Nioh 2 Complete Edition will hit PC and PlayStation 5, the latter player base will get a helping of something extra. PlayStation 5 players will also be able to buy a remaster of the original Nioh from 2017. It will be bundled as part of the Nioh Collection for the PlayStation 5 which will include both Nioh titles with all the DLC.

As an extra piece of good news for PlayStation 5 players, owners of Nioh 2 on PlayStation 4 will receive a free PlayStation 5 upgrade. This means Nioh 2 joins the still growing list of free next-gen upgrades so existing owners won’t feel jilted with a remaster coming just two months after the final DLC.

Nioh 2 is available now on PlayStation 4 and will release on PC and PlayStation 5 on February 5, 2021.
