Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PC Update Will Add Achievements

Launching earlier this month, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has largely been a success with both fans and critics. Taking the long-running series to the Viking era and tasking players with building a settlement in England, it continues the heavier RPG-focus of both Origins and Odysseyoffering a large open-world with secrets to uncover and quests to complete.

While the new game is available on a variety of different consoles and largely offers the same level of content regardless of platform, it seems players on the PC are missing a pretty crucial part of the game. That feature is none other than achievements, with Ubisoft coming out recently and claiming that it would be ditching the feature entirely in favor of Ubisoft Connect’s challenges.

The challenges see players rewarded with currency for achieving certain feats, with players able to use these points to buy in-game items such as new weapons or outfits. It seems Ubisoft has now backtracked on the idea completely, claiming that it’s working on introducing achievements to the PC game. The announcement was made on the Ubisoft forums, with the company claiming that the removal of achievements was actually “unintended” and that its original claim that the feature was meant to be taken out was “inaccurate.” Although there’s no official date on when it will be, it seems it’s something the team is looking to reimplement ASAP.

For those who didn’t catch the original backlash to Ubisoft’s announcement of changes coming to achievements, fans were up in arms about the fact Ubisoft Connect’s challenges would take the place of traditional achievements. Many even claimed it was a deal-breaker for the game altogether, threatening to refund their Assassin’s Creed Valhalla copies unless Ubisoft brought them back. It seems the decision has appeased this subsection of players, with many celebrating the publisher’s announcement that it would work on their return in the coming weeks.

Aside from its achievements confusion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has easily been one of Ubisoft’s biggest games in years. It beat out Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this week for the number one spot in the UK, a feat that’s admittedly difficult to achieve considering Call of Duty’s dominance in most sales charts, while the game doubled Odyssey’s day one player count. It’s also been a slamdunk with critics, managing to pull in a respectable 85 on the Xbox Series X and an 80 on the PlayStation 4. It’ll be interesting to see whether the sequel falls into Game of the Year discussions when they begin next month.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
