Halo Infinite Won’t Be At The Game Awards, ‘High Level Update’ Coming Soon

As the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S reach the end of their first week on sale, a major component of the consoles’ marketing is absent: 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite. The newest entry in Microsoft’s 19-year-old first-person shooter franchise was advertised as a launch title for the consoles during Microsoft’s E3 2019 conference, but after a controversial gameplay reveal this year the title saw a delay into 2021, missing the launch of both consoles. Now, 343 Industries has commented on when fans can expect more information on Halo Infinite.

In the Halo subreddit’s community weekly discussion thread today, 343 Industries Community Director Brian Jarrard updated the community on the whereabouts of new Halo Infinite information after the recent departure of the game’s director, Chris Lee. “Right now we’re still going through the huge cascade of implications and ramifications to the release shift and the team is heads down working through nearly every facet of the game,” he said.

Regarding when fans can expect to see the game next, he said, “Full disclosure we don’t have anything planned for the VGAs (The Game Awards), but are hoping to offer at least a high level update within the next few weeks so we can kind of restart this journey together after the holidays. Pulling together something like a demo or big beat for the VGAs is an enormous amount of work and would cause challenges with current milestones of the holidays.” Developers at 343 Industries has been very vocal about the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the company’s workload, with the studio initially struggling to work from home.

Jarrard ends off saying, “I know it’s hard to wait, but the team is going to make the most of this extra time and we want to make sure we can put our best foot forward and commit to greater transparency and dialog on the road ahead. We’ll get there and get the train going again.” Notably, as Jarrard mentions earlier in the post, 343 Industries is hoping to “restart this journey” with the community, seemingly acknowledging the developers’ criticized lack of communication with fans coming up to the release of Halo Infinite.

While it may be disappointing to see that Halo Infinite will not be making an appearance at The Game Awards, what the studio’s planned ‘high level update’ is remains to be seen. Halo Infinite‘s showing at Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase in July was instantly met with criticism regarding the quality of the game’s visuals, spawning the now-infamous ‘Craig’ meme. The fallout and subsequent delay, following the departure of Chris Lee, leaves a lot for 343 Industries to try to clear up at the game’s next showing.

Halo Infinite will release in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
