Head of Xbox Confirms Plans to Buy More Studios | Game Rant

The announcement that Microsoft was purchasing ZeniMax Media – owners of Bethesda and its assortment of major AAA studios – shocked the world when it was revealed earlier this year. Not only did it mean that some of Bethesda’s biggest games would be hitting Xbox Game Pass, but it also meant the likes of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, and more would all join the console’s stable of first-party games.

As it stands, it seems Phil Spencer looks on the $7.5 billion acquisition as the first of many for the publisher, with the head of Xbox revealing during Twitch Glitchcon’s opening address that the company intends to acquire more studios down the line. It seems the idea behind the new focus is to build the console’s library of must-play games and strengthen the overall quality of Game Pass as a service.

“In terms of continuing to invest in new studios and new games and new content, absolutely we have to do that,” Spencer claims during the stream, stating that “it’s important we continue to build out the library of games that are available on Xbox.” Speaking further on the subject, he tells his interviewers that the publisher wants to “continue to invest in great games.” As Game Pass continues to grow into one of the industry’s biggest subscription-based names, it seems Spencer wants to ensure a variety of AAA studios are underneath the Xbox umbrella providing substantial titles for the service.

It seems players can expect some notable acquisitions from Spencer and the team over at Microsoft in the future. For now though, the company is all hands on deck with the Bethesda purchase, with Spencer revealing that the deal won’t actually go through until early next year. That being said, the head of Xbox claims the early reaction has been overwhelming, with the excitement showing that fans are thrilled to see Bethesda and Microsoft join forces and provide some exceptional games in the years to come.

The deal will no doubt have a big effect on Xbox Game Pass, with Spencer once again reaffirming that Bethesda’s biggest games will be coming to the service on day one. Seeing as EA Play recently teamed up with Xbox, bringing the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Mass Effect, The Sims 4, and more to Game Pass, the addition of Bethesda will only further cement what a great deal the subscription service is.

As it stands, it currently has some huge games already, including Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Outer Worlds, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It’ll be intriguing to see whether Xbox’s new drive to bring more big names into the Xbox fold will add significantly to its line-up in the coming years.
