Popular voice actor Quinton Flynn has recently come under fire as a number of accusations of sexually harassing fans have begun to surface online. While the actor, best known for playing Axel in Kingdom Hearts and Raiden in Metal Gear Solid, generally maintains a positive image online, some former fans have stepped up to speak out about encounters in which they felt were inappropriate.
One former fan in particular has created a Twitter account called @BewareQFlynn in order to compile as many of these harassment accusations as they can. As these accusations have only recently begun to spread, some fans of the actor have also joined in on the discussion, some of which voicing countering claims, although most viewers following the story have chosen to offer their sympathy to the alleged victims.
According to the sexual harassment accusations, a number of prior fans of Flynn claim to have met the voice actor at conventions and online, generally interacting with him through his Instagram account and on WhatsApp. From there, he would leave comments or send messages to fans, some claiming to be minors at the time, that some viewers looking over the shared screenshots describe as vulgar and showing evidence of grooming. Additionally, one fan shared an interaction with the voice actor in which he made a number of sexual remarks, with some of these remarks being recorded and having appeared in an uncomfortable audio clip.
Of course, it should be mentioned that the allegations against Flynn have not been proven in a court of law to be truthful, even if the trend of these accusations and many recorded conversations are convincing. This also does not mean that they are not valid complaints, nor that these events didn’t occur as the accusers claim, as that is still to be determined at the time of this writing. Flynn has also not publicly responded to these claims at this time, meaning that all of the information that fans have to go on is from those making the accusations.
It should also be noted, and @BewareQFlynn also mentions, that this does not reflect on the characters that Flynn has played, and inversely, any goodwill garnered by his career should not apply to his personal life. There are times when people in a position of power abuse that power, whether it be gaming industry executives accused of misconduct, or entertainers who use their celebrity status to abuse the trust of their fans. These allegations are never a cut and dry sort of situation, and fans and detractors can easily be drawn to take sides before all of the information is out there.
