You might want to take a moment to check you are getting the most out of your games on your brand new PS5.
PS5 early adopters are finding that their new console sometimes defaults to the PS4 version of games. Players are now being asked to check if they are running the correct version on their new hardware.
New generation launches are often plagued with weird bugs and small issues that hamper the experience. The PS5 has been no different, with even big bugs that require factory resets of the console.
As a PSA to PS5 users, it’s worth checking to see if you are running the correct version of a game. You have just bought a brand new console, you might as well be maximising the power you invested in.
Most notably Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War seems to be having this issue. Activision support acknowledged it and offered a solution on Twitter:
To make sure you’re playing the next-gen version of #BlackOpsColdWar on PS5:
1. Highlight the game tile on the Dashboard
2. Scroll down and highlight “Play”
3. Select the 3 dots and open the menu
4. Select “PS5 | Full | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”
5. Launch and enjoy!

This doesn’t appear to be entirely localised to the latest Call of Duty though. On the PS5 subreddit, one user noticed a similar problem with both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Watch Dogs Legion.
The problem mainly lies in the fact the PS5 UI does not indicate which version is running. Unless you go looking for it, you may be playing the PS4 version and wondering why it’s not looking/running as impressively as it does in trailers. In all cases, the same solution Activision offered applies.
Getting a next-gen console is always exciting and showcasing that new graphical power is one of the first wow factors of buying in. It’s worth your time to check and see if you are getting the most bang for your buck.
