Resident Evil 8 Demo and Multiplayer Plans Leaked | Game Rant

Capcom was recently the victim of a major hack, with employee personal information stolen and information on the company’s upcoming projects leaked online. The Capcom leak includes information on what fans can expect from the company’s hugely successful Resident Evil franchise, like what it has in store for 2021’s Resident Evil 8.

The data, compiled on ResetEra, claims that Resident Evil 8 will have a current-gen release. Capcom previously suggested that it was looking into the possibility of releasing Resident Evil 8 on current-generation consoles as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and now it seems that is indeed what’s happening with the game. As for when fans will actually get to play the game, the leak indicates that the Resident Evil 8 release date will be sometime in April of 2021.

However, fans may get to try Resident Evil 8 prior to its planned April 2021 launch. Apparently, a Resident Evil 8 demo is in the works, though it’s unclear when exactly it will be available. Capcom has used demos to great effect in the past, with its Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour demo generating significant excitement for that game. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the company pulls off with a Resident Evil 8 demo, if it does indeed materialize.

Another big piece of Resident Evil 8 news from the leak points to the game possibly getting a battle royale-style multiplayer mode of some kind. The project is referred to internally as “Project Highway/Village Online,” indicating that it has something to do with Resident Evil 8. Perhaps it will be a completely standalone release, or maybe it will be tied to Resident Evil 8 in the same way that Resident Evil: Resistance is tied to the Resident Evil 3 remake. Until official information from Capcom comes to light, though, all fans can do is speculate.

Resident Evil 8 wasn’t the only Resident Evil project mentioned in the big Capcom leak. A Resident Evil 4 Oculus Quest port is also reportedly in development, though more details on that are hard to come by. It’s possible the Resident Evil 4 VR port will be based on the rumored Resident Evil 4 remake, but it’s also possible that it will be based on the original version of RE4. Whatever the case may be, more information should come to light in the months ahead.

Assuming the Resident Evil 8 release date leak is accurate, all of this info should be confirmed or denied within the next six months or so.

Resident Evil 8 is confirmed to be in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with current-gen versions rumored.
