Despite Bloodborne releasing well over five years ago, the game still possesses a loving and dedicated fanbase. In addition to the tight game mechanics that From Software is known for, the setting, aesthetic, and atmosphere of Bloodborne is largely what draws players to the game. This also includes the unique design of the game’s various weapons.
Bloodborne is home to a multitude of different weapons, each of which unique and memorable in terms of its design. However, what sets Bloodborne’s weapons apart from Dark Souls’ weapons is that some of them are trick weapons that feature two different functions. For instance, the Hunter Axe can increase and decrease in length. Although, one of the most easily recognizable Bloodborne trick weapons is the Threaded Cane.
The Threaded Cane can transform from a regular blade to a whip covered in blades. While one of the starter weapons and one of the most recognizable, it certainly isn’t one of the more overrated weapons in Bloodborne. Although, one talented fan has managed to accurately recreate the Threaded Cane into a useable, transformable weapon.
Mitori on Twitter posted a video of their recreation of the Threaded Cane. When shook, the blade transforms in the same consistency as the Threaded Cane, and when pounded down on the ground, it will transform back into the cane. The Gothic, Victorian-era aesthetic and influence is clearly present within the recreation. It is extremely impressive craftsmanship and is a wonder to behold. This is quite similar to when actual blacksmiths recreated the eclipse sword from Godfall.
Even five years after the game’s release, the fact that members of the Bloodborne community are continuing to contribute and create work based on the game is quite impressive. With any luck, From Software will eventually get around to developing Bloodborne 2, but even if the studio never touches Bloodborne again, fans of the game will still love and appreciate it for what it is.
It will be interesting to see what From Software does in the future. Now that the studio is starting to break away from the Dark Souls series and making more standalone titles like Bloodborne and Sekiro, it seems like the studio will likely create numerous unique titles that utilize the classic mechanics that were first established in the original Dark Souls. Hopefully, the upcoming Elden Ring will manage to live up to the expectations and standards of previous From Software games.
Bloodborne is available now exclusively for the PS4.
