It’s been a big day for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community, with Nintendo detailing new content coming to the game in the next few months. While New Horizons’ Winter update is exciting enough on its own, Nintendo also confirmed the next update will arrive in late January, bringing more changes to the island-building game.
Nintendo didn’t elaborate much further than the confirmation itself, which does make sense given the bulk of the other content being added in Animal Crossing’s Winter update, which will coat islands in snow and allow players to deliver presents. The update may see the winter-themed content removed from the game and replaced by something else. It’s possible that fans could get a Valentine’s Day update, as the timing matches up fairly well, but it’s difficult to say.
So far, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been consistently updated with new content and limited-time events, allowing players to earn special themed content and seasonal items. These haven’t all been winners, the Easter Animal Crossing event had issues with too many eggs dropping, which upset players, but the steady churn of new stuff to experience has managed to keep players investing time into the game.
On top of events, new fish and bugs have come and gone from the game, leaving players with a consistent amount to collect on top of the renovations they want to make to their islands. The game has been a breakout success for Nintendo, helping make one of the best sales years for the Switch, fueling Nintendo’s success for the year.
The game hasn’t even been out for a year yet, either, so there should still be some surprises in store for fans. With new content steadily churning out and the January update confirmed, Nintendo undoubtedly has something left up its sleeve for fans to enjoy. What exactly that is, however, remains to be seen.
Those bored with their current island need not worry. The Winter update kicks off on November 19, and the late January update should land shortly after it starts to wind down. As far as seasons go, winter is one of the most eventful, and with the madness that has been 2020, fans can expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons to maintain its escapist nature for the foreseeable future, giving players a place to retreat to from time to time. Of course, it helps that there’s so much to do while spending time there.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
