Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Bug Gives Players Free Killstreaks

With big shoes to fill after last year’s massively successful game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Activision, Treyarch, and Raven Software are hoping to replicate that success with this year’s title, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Along with a new time period and weapons, the latest Call of Duty also brings a new changes with it including the return of scorestreaks, Zombies, and much more. However, the games release has not gone off smoothly either, as new reports of glitches, bugs, and other odd issues have popped up over the past few days.

One bug in particular has started making the rounds and giving some players within the multiplayer modes for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War an unfair advantage. The bug appears to be an isolated issue and not something that will become a massive issues, but new footage appears to show players getting random killstreak rewards when spawning after a death.

The footage is clipped from the streamer known as DiamondRyce who gets access to an Attack Helicopter after dying on the Satellite map. What’s a bit odd is that in this match, DiamondRyce and his team are getting dominated by the enemy team when seemingly out of the blue, an attack helicopter appears after being announced. The chopper immediately gets destroyed, giving Ryce the “Dead Bird” medal and 200 points, something typically reserved for a person taking it out, which he certainly did not do.

What’s even stranger is that after crashing, a new attack helicopter seemingly spawns in from where the now destroyed one was and indicates that it is friendly as Ryce and his team can see the friendly radio chatter from the helicopter pilot. As the chopper takes out enemy players, DiamondRyce is even awarded points for each kill, something which only happens if the person is the one to call it in. By the end of the clip, the helicopter seemingly turns on the team and kills DiamondRyce.

There’s seemingly no reason for any of this and it could likely be a random bug the match encountered. Some have speculated it could be related to scorestreaks or perhaps as a boost for teams on the wrong side of a match. However, it doesn’t account for the helicopter seemingly spawning in from a destroyed on and then ultimately turning on the team it appeared to be supporting.

Unfortunately, with how random and rare this issue seems to be, it’s likely not going to be a high priority for Treyarch as the game currently has a large amount of pressing issues that need to be ironed out such as disconnecting PS5 controllers, split-screen problems on the Xbox Series X, console crashing, and other annoying bugs currently in the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
