The Pokemon trading card game has been blowing up recently, but not in the way most traditional or long-time players might expect. Thanks to the controversial, yet influential figure Logan Paul buying extremely rare Pokemon cards not too long ago, the Pokemon TCG collector space has exploded on social media.
Now, tons of content creators are getting into the collection game, or just celebrating some of the nostalgia that comes with retro Pokemon trading cards. Recently, one PewDiePie fan made a custom Pokemon trading card based on the YouTuber and was featured in one of PewDiePie’s videos.
The creator of the card goes by the name “Rap Trading” on Instagram, where they showed off their impressive creation. The card is fully holographic, featuring PewDiePie’s red and black line pattern as the background of the card. The image of the card shows PewDiePie crouching down, with his head peeking slightly out of the border’s of the card. The card even has its own dedicated move list and energy set, referencing memes from PewDiePie’s popular YouTube channel.
All-in-all, the card is detailed and has plenty of appeal for fans of the YouTube giant. The Rap Trading Instagram account specializes in making custom Pokemon trading cards based off celebrities and internet personalities. Rap Trading also creates custom Yu-Gi-Oh trading cards for those interested in another monster battling card game. The portfolio of work on Rap Trading is very impressive, with tons of details thrown into each card.
The account is no doubt experiencing a boom following the rise in the collector’s side of Pokemon trading cards. There are plenty of live streams on platforms like Twitch and YouTube with personalities buying booster boxes for insane amounts of money, hoping to pull rare cards. These streamers aren’t looking to pull the best competitive cards in the game, they’re more looking to pull cards that are scarce, as some cards are valued by other collectors for prices ranging from $20,000 to $230,000.
Though the world of vintage Pokemon card collecting is not for the faint of heart, there are still plenty of other ways for players to get into the Pokemon TCG. In fact, the Pokemon TCG just announced the release date for the Vivid Voltage expansion. Those who want to dip their toes into collecting without breaking the bank can give some thought to purchasing the newest set, seeing as those cards can also prove valuable in the long-run. Hopefully, this Pokemon trading card boom leads to more people coming together and creating something positive around the Pokemon franchise.
