HBO Max Is Finally Coming to Amazon Fire TV Devices | Game Rant

WarnerMedia announced HBO Max is available on Amazon Fire TV streaming devices as of Tuesday, November 17. The deal between both parties will bring the six-month-old streaming service to tens of millions of potential new subscribers.

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max launched in May 2020 without distribution on Amazon devices or Roku, the second and first most-used streaming platforms in the U.S., respectively. With the new deal between WarnerMedia and Amazon, Roku remains the sole remaining major platform without an agreement to carry the streaming service.

Under the terms of the deal between WarnerMedia and Amazon, current HBO subscribers who purchased their subscription through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels will be able to log into HBO Max using their Amazon credentials at no additional cost. Meanwhile, Fire TV and Fire tablets will automatically update the HBO app to become the HBO Max app. New customers can subscribe to HBO Max directly through the app while current customers will be able to log in using their existing HBO credentials. Furthermore, all existing HBO Max customers will now be able to access the streaming service through supported Fire TV and Fire tablet devices using their existing provider credentials regardless of how they subscribe to the platform. HBO Max will also be compatible with Fire TV’s entire lineup, including the new Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite.

“We are very excited that Amazon customers will now be able to enjoy the best-in-class content that lives within HBO Max,” said Tony Goncalves, Head of Sales and Distribution for WarnerMedia, in a statement. “Our continued goal is to make HBO Max and its unparalleled content available to customers across all the devices they love. Fire TV is a favorite among customers and we look forward to working with the Amazon team to engage and grow our existing subscriber base by showcasing all that HBO Max has to offer.” Marc Whitten, Vice President of Amazon Entertainment Devices and Services, said in his own statement, “We’ve worked closely with HBO for many years to bring their great content to Fire TV and to make it easier to discover and enjoy with features like search integration, Alexa and personalized recommendations. We are excited to continue that partnership with the launch of HBO Max to bring even more incredible content to customers on Fire TV. Alexa, play Raised by Wolves.”

In October, AT&T touted the growth of HBO Max subscribers and activations during the third quarter of 2020. However, the numbers weren’t high enough to offset the losses faced by WarnerMedia’s Warner Bros. division, but the deal with Amazon could help the streaming service in its struggle to grow its audience.

For Amazon customers who are excited to see Wonder Woman 1984 in a safe environment, the deal may have arrived just in time. Warner Bros. is reportedly considering releasing the DC film in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time next month.
