Last week, Sony released the PlayStation 5, which marks the PlayStation brand’s entry to next-generation console gaming. As expected, the demand for the PS5 has been greater than Sony’s capacity to produce it, which is why many players were not able to secure one at launch.
Now, a Reddit user shared a heartwarming story online on how he was able to get a PS5 for his gaming friend of 15 years who were unable to secure one during the console’s launch. According to Redditor ghost_knight1121, he has been playing with one of his friends for over a decade and a half now, and their friendship began during the heyday of the Xbox 360 playing Rainbow Six Vegas. The two gamers have since developed a strong friendship both virtually and in real life, and the user explained that they were also each other’s best men at their weddings.
However, while ghost_knight1121 was one of the lucky ones who got their PS5 on launch day, his friend could not get one. The good news is that the Reddit user found himself lucky once again and was able to snag a spare unit of the next-gen console and went on to visit his friend to surprise him with the PS5. Of course, given the many advanced features of the PS5 and the strong lineup of PS5 launch games available now, ghost_knight1121’s kind gesture means that both gamers will now be able to continue their gaming adventures to the new generation of console gaming.
At the moment, how the Reddit user was able to get a spare unit of the PS5 remains a mystery, but it is worth noting that Walmart and some other retailers did offer the console during launch day. However, for those who were still not able to secure one, some retailers have confirmed that stocks of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S will be available on Black Friday but will only be offered online.
Meanwhile, some players who were able to get the PS5 at launch are already reporting some issues with the new-generation PlayStation console. While most issues are minor such as problems with transferring data from the PS4 to the PS5, connection issues with the DualSense controller, and many more, the PS5 appears to have one major problem. The issue arises after players put their PS5 to rest mode, which results in some early adopters being forced to reset their PS5 to factory setting, and in some serious cases, bricks the console. There is still no permanent fix for the rest mode problem at the time of this writing, but Sony did release a firmware update today, so hopefully it resolves some of the lingering issues.
The PS5 is available now in select countries.
