The LEGO Super Mario sets have been a fairly hot commodity ever since the plastic brick construction icon partnered with Nintendo’s most popular franchise. The sets quickly became a best-seller on Amazon within their first week of release and their sales aren’t slowing down.
Announced today via Nintendo’s YouTube channel was that the popular LEGO Super Mario series will be getting a plethora of new expansions that bring forth all new enemies, bosses, suits, and interactive environments for fans to enjoy.
The original starter kit and its expansions included a LEGO Mario with the ability to interact with his environment by means of jumping on enemies, punching blocks, and even knowing what type of environment was under him. LEGO Mario could even equip a number of power-ups to even further his interactivity and make the experience all the more immersive. Most of the expansions included a new environment to build as a stand-alone or addition to a current set, as well as a new character for LEGO Mario to battle or even a LEGO Yoshi. The new sets will follow the same trend with a slight twist.
As shown in the video, there are plenty of new additions that tread similar water than the original series. New enemies like Shy Guys, Paragoombas, and Spinies will act in a similar fashion as the enemies before with LEGO Mario simply jumping on them, but some new additions like the timed Yellow Pipe will give players a shorter time limit as they navigate their worlds to the sound of Super Mario 64‘s slide music. There are even Poison Mushrooms that make LEGO Mario’s eyes swirl as if he’s poisoned.
Also included in the set is a boss arena featuring Lemmy, one of the Koopalings, as well as a customizable special brick that will let fans choose what item comes out of it. Two new suits, the Penguin and Tanooki suit, will also be released in this wave of expansions. Much like the previous series, the LEGO Mario sets are likely to sell out, so fans should keep a close eye on any pre-orders or product drops to ensure they don’t miss out.
Many of the previous expansions have gone on sale at Amazon, so there is no better time to check out the LEGO Mario craze. These sets provide an interesting outlet to build a unique Super Mario course with friends and family with plenty of fun for all ages.
The LEGO Super Mario sets are available now at various retailers.
