Last week, Sony released the PlayStation 5, which marks the transition of the PlayStation brand to the next-generation of console gaming. Although the PS5 is barely a week old, Sony has just released the console’s first update, which is said to bring quality-of-life improvements to the next-generation system.
At the moment, specific details of what the latest update brings to the PS5 are still unknown, but Sony explains that “This system software update improves system performance.” However, despite the lack of details, it appears that the latest update won’t be as massive as what some people may think, given that its overall file size is just 866 MB. Moreover, it is likely that Sony will be releasing patch notes soon, so those players who are hesitant to download the update should wait for the company to release more details on what it brings to the system.
Of course, given that the PS5 is a brand new piece of hardware, some players have already encountered problems with the next-gen console, and these problems range from minor to major issues. The biggest problem that some players may encounter with their PS5 relates to the console’s Rest Mode feature. Similar to the PS4, the PS5 allows players to put the console to Rest Mode in order to run the device on low power while still being able to download updates and software.
Unfortunately, some players reported a critical error that appears after the console is put to rest mode. The majority of those who encountered this error was forced to reset their PS5 to factory settings, while more serious cases reported bricked consoles. At the moment, the only solution to prevent this error is to disable the PS5’s rest mode feature. It is also unknown whether the latest update addresses this issue, but this will soon be clear as more people download the latest firmware update.
Apart from the rest mode issue, other PS5 players reported problems with transferring data from the PS4 to PS5, playing PS4 games via an external hard drive, and connectivity issues with the DualSense controllers, and the download queue bug. It is also important to note that some players checked whether the update fixes the download queue glitch but to no avail. Luckily for players, it appears that there are no other major issues with the PS5 apart from the rest mode error and some smaller problems, but hopefully, the latest update will also address some of the minor issues that are currently present in PS5 consoles.
The PS5 is available now in select countries.
