Xbox App Update Will Add Convenient New Feature | Game Rant

The Xbox One and the recently-launched Xbox Series X/S may be the main way most fans engage with the Xbox ecosystem nowadays, but more and more, Microsoft has been making it easier for them to access it from their mobile devices. The new Xbox app the company introduced a few months ago has been providing users with a number of helpful features, and it looks like a few more will be coming soon.

At the moment, the app, aside from setting up new Series X/S consoles, can be used to chat with friends, check out friends’ activity, share captured screenshots and videos, and even stream Xbox games from a console via remote play. Now people are reporting on social media that the beta version of the app received an update that adds the ability to change one’s profile picture to that list.

According to the beta version’s new iOS store listing, as shared by The Verge senior editor Tom Warren, it will soon be possible for users everywhere to adjust their gamerpic directly from the app. The update will make it so they can swap out their profile picture with any image from their phones (that meet community guidelines, that is) or from a selection of images in the Xbox library, simply by tapping their gamerpic in the profile tag. This will ensure users have ready access to a large amount of potential new gamerpics to personalize their profiles with.

Beyond the ability to change gamerpics, the latest beta update brings a few improvements to the chat feature, like the ability to send message requests. It’s even possible to start group chats now by simply selecting multiple friends when at the start of a conversation. Additionally, the update makes it so users can view their entire game library in the “My Library” tab, including their Xbox Game Pass titles.

All of these rank among the Xbox app’s most convenient features and will go a long way to making it a more viable extension of users’ Xbox experience. However, as of this writing, there’s no solid estimate for when the beta update will make its way to the full iOS app. It’s also unclear if a similar update is in the works for the Android version, but it’s likely that one will likely launch at around the same time.

There’s still plenty of room for the app to improve even more. A few key features have still yet to be added, like being able to view achievements or play games on iOS through Xbox Game Pass (though Microsoft is working on bringing Game Pass functionality to iOS devices by next year). With any luck, these will be added before too long.
