Xbox Console Exclusive Call of the Sea Gets Release Date and New Trailer

Back in May, Microsoft unveiled Call of the Sea, a new first-person adventure game where players explore a mysterious island in the South Pacific as a woman named Norah, who is searching for her missing husband. The game turned some heads as one of the first Xbox Series X titles revealed to the public, and its use of Lovecraft mythology has definitely piqued some interest as well. Now it’s been revealed that fans don’t have to wait long at all to try Call of the Sea, as the Xbox console exclusive will be out in just a matter of weeks.

As part of a new trailer released today, Call of the Sea‘s release date has been confirmed for December 8. A cross-generational game, Call of the Sea will be available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X when it launches, and it will be debuting on Game Pass to boot. So anyone who is subscribed to Game Pass can give the Xbox console exclusive a shot without having to commit any additional cash.

Besides revealing Call of the Sea‘s release date, the new trailer also showcases some gameplay. It looks as though Call of the Sea‘s gameplay will consist of plenty of puzzle solving and item-collecting as players try to unravel the mystery behind their husband’s disappearance.

Even though Call of the Sea is a cross-gen game that is coming to both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, it will have some next-gen enhancements exclusive to the next-generation version of the game. Those that have managed to secure an Xbox Series X for themselves and decide to play Call of the Sea comes its December 8 release date can look forward to playing the game at a stunning 4K resolution and a consistent 60 frames per second. Based on the trailer, the game should still be visually pleasing on older hardware, though, so those still playing on Xbox One should still have plenty to look forward to.

Call of the Sea‘s early December release date is interesting because it would have once conflicted with the launch of another Xbox console exclusive game. Xbox console exclusive horror game The Medium was once scheduled for launch on December 10, only for it to be delayed to January. It was suggested that The Medium‘s delay was so that the game wouldn’t have to compete with the highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 (and due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic), so it’s interesting that Call of the Sea doesn’t seem to have the same concern.

In any case, Call of the Sea‘s status as an Xbox console exclusive should make it of particular interest to Xbox Series X early adopters come its December 8 release date.

Call of the Sea launches December 8 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
