Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity releases in only a couple of days and fans couldn’t be more excited, especially thanks to the playable demo and an initial review from Famitsu. And today, Nintendo has released a launch trailer that should both further hype up the game and makes fans anxious for its inevitable conclusion.
The trailer primarily focuses on the story of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, with most of it consisting of moments from cutscenes rather than gameplay, highlighting Link, Zelda, Impa, and the other four Champions preparing for battle. At one point, there’s even a brief shot of what is no doubt a young Sidon, Mipha’s little brother who will grow up to become an ally of Link’s in Breath of the Wild.
However, everyone knows the story will end with Link and his allies ultimately failing to defeat Calamity Ganon and the four Champions will tragically die. The trailer may even provide a glimpse of their deaths, as they can be seen battling the four phantoms of Ganon that take over the Divine Beasts. These four were boss fights in Breath of the Wild, but it’s not been confirmed yet if players will get to fight them in Age of Calamity.
The mysterious hooded figure seen in previous trailers makes a brief appearance too, given viewers a proper look at his face, though it’s still unclear who exactly he is. There are theories that he could be recurring Zelda baddie Vaati or even this era’s version of Ganondorf. Hopefully, all will be made clear once the game releases.
Perhaps the most interesting detail comes right at the end, where Zelda can be seen leading her army into battle, while wearing a white dress, and she performs what looks like a special attack where she summons an image of the Triforce and fires an arrow through it.
In Age of Calamity, Zelda’s method of attacking is entirely through the Sheikah Slate, as she lacks any magical abilities that her counterparts from other games possess. However, since she eventually manages to tap into her dormant powers during this portion of the story, this could mean that she’ll unlock new moves like this one to use in battle. Or maybe she’ll have a separate fighting style where she drops the Sheikah Slate and uses magic entirely, similar to how Link can go into battle with different weapon types.
Her dress could also mean that her appearance can be customized too. So far, it seemed like Link would be the only character whose cosmetics could be altered, but maybe players can unlock the white dress for Zelda to wear in other missions too?
As a reminder, the demo will carry over save data to the final game, so players who manage to complete it can get a head-start with the game upon release and pick up immediately where the demo leaves off.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will release for Nintendo Switch on November 20th.
