Right now, Kingdom Hearts fan are likely still enjoying the most recent game, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, the rhythm game spin-off which serves as a celebration of the series’ music while also seeming to set up the future of the series going forward.
But a new game can only satisfy absolute die-hard fans of the series for so long and who knows how long it will be until Kingdom Hearts 4 ever happens. Fortunately, while no new games have been formally announced yet, the series will still be receiving new merchandise in the interim, including a pair of brand-new themed watches.
Japanese retailer U-Treasure has recently posted pre-orders for the watches on its website, which come in white and black variants. They feature the Kingdom Hearts logo on the back side of the watch face and the dial itself is adorned with various iconic symbols related to the series: the crown (which is usually heavily associated with main character Sora), the heart, the Keyblade, and the classic Mickey Mouse icon (though maybe they missed a trick not making the watch hands themselves Keyblades).
The watches also come with a pouch to keep them in, which also features the series logo on it, and are even described as being water-proof. They cost 27,500 yen each (which is roughly $265) and the aim is to ship pre-orders out on December 25th.
Unfortunately, there so far appear to be no plans to release them in the West and a search through U-Treasure’s website reveals that, while it does offer international shipping, the selection of items available for international shipping is limited and does not include any of the Kingdom Hearts products.
Japanese-exclusive merchandise is nothing new but, while this news may be annoying for some fans, Western audiences aren’t being completely left out. Only recently, the official soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts 3 was made widely available through several digital streaming services, such as iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon Music (though the physical discs are only sold in Japan).
And earlier this week, it was announced that the newest Ultimania book, which have always provided in-depth looks at the series and even offered exclusive information not explained in the games, will be the first to receive an official English translation and release. It’s not due until next year, but it’s set to cover the entirety of the series’ lore and story arcs up to before Kingdom Hearts 3 and is sure to be a must-buy for any fans.
In the meantime, fans are also hopeful to see more Kingdom Hearts games be brought to Nintendo Switch, after director Tetsuya Nomura teased that he and his team could deliver something for Nintendo fans in the future.
