Rare Teases Big Changes for Sea of Thieves in 2021 | Game Rant

By now, it’s been well established how tough 2020 has been for a lot of game developers, but that hasn’t stopped Sea of Thieves from seeing some major growth this year in both its player count and the amount of content Rare has added to it. Impressive though that may be, Rare says it’s not “slowing down any time soon,” and teased that big things are in store for the game in the coming year.

What these things are is still a mystery, but executive producer Joe Neate promised in a recent blog post that the developer is “hard at work behind the scenes on some significant changes that will lead us into 2021.” He added that plans for continuing support for Sea of Thieves are “in motion,” and that there is “some major news still to come.”

Because of these longer-term plans, Neate says that Rare is spending the rest of 2020 focusing more on quality-of-life improvements and general bug fixes than new content. That’s not to say there won’t be any new content, as the new Emporium update released today adds a number of new pets, emotes, and cosmetic items, and makes the Battletoads-themed ship set available for anyone to purchase.

Neate also confirmed that all of the challenges and voyages from last month’s Fate of the Damned update will remain active until December 9, while September’s Vault of the Ancients update has been expanded upon to add The Devil’s Roar region to the list of possible vault locations. Furthermore, players will be able to earn double gold and reputation during Thanksgiving weekend.

Sea of Thieves is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
