Dead Bodies Are Appearing on Grand Theft Auto Online’s Beaches

Grand Theft Auto Online has an update that adds mysterious content that may be teasing an even bigger update coming soon. This morning, dead bodies with briefcases randomly started washing to shore in GTA Online. Fans have figured out that each real-time hour, a corpse will appear in different beach locations scattered around the city of Los Santos.

This mysterious event may be linked to the rumors of a large update to Grand Theft Auto Online, seemingly supported by a cryptic video tweeted by Rockstar this morning that depicted quick shots of an island with the words “El Rubio Dossier” at the beginning. The video also shows one of the corpses with the placeholder name “John Doe” and a description saying “Last visual contact: Los Santos International Airport.”

Many believe that this event and the cryptic tweet point to a map expansion for GTA Online and a new heist. The mysterious nature of unidentified bodies washing to shore is fairly reminiscent of the real-life mystery of the Tamam Shud case, in which an unidentified man was found on an Australian beach with no clues to his identity or death, except for a briefcase found at a nearby railway station. The case remains unsolved but some believe the mystery involved espionage or a dangerous mission.

There has been clear evidence of a massive update to GTA Online even before dead bodies started appearing on the shores of Los Santos. During a Gorillaz music video featuring the band driving through Los Santo, an island can be seen in the background and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also revealed during an investment call that GTA Online will have the biggest update ever leading into 2021.

With the map expansion and new heist seemingly confirmed, many fans are trying to figure out exactly what the heist could entail. Some fans have pointed out that “El Rubio” could be a single person or possibly a criminal organization and fans believe that “John Doe” was trying to escape the island, but was killed by “El Rubio” in the process.

Many fans expressed their disappointment for the GTA Online announcement instead of Rockstar announcing Grand Theft Auto 6. Some believe that the new update to GTA Online will reveal more about the story leading into GTA 6, but fans will have to wait for the update, which does not have a release date and has yet to be officially confirmed by Rockstar. It is possible that more clues may pop up to reveal more information about the new island and heist.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions slated to launch in 2021.
