Modder Recreates Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in Super Mario Galaxy

As Pokemon fans, particularly those of the 4th generation, are keeping their eyes on possible Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remake announcements, they won’t have to look too far in the meantime because an unofficial mod recreates the two Pokemon games within Super Mario Galaxy‘s world – all the way from the starting area and up to the Pokemon League.

Created and developed by RiazorMC, a popular modder who is known for creating mods for a variety of Nintendo games, the latest mod puts the entire world of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl‘s Sinnoh region into Super Mario Galaxy with Mario as the playable character. The mod allows Mario to traverse the locations while still keeping all gameplay mechanics from Super Mario Galaxy like jumping, swimming, among other tricks. As far as graphics go, RiazorMC was able to replicate them while giving the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Sinnoh locations a slight polish to look crisp and in HD.

Despite the mod putting Mario into the Sinnoh region, it doesn’t have everything from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. For instance, Mario does not come across any Pokemon Trainers, nor does he encounter any wild Pokemon. In fact, as soon as he reaches the Pokemon League, there is a Staryu waiting to be picked up. Upon picking up the Staryu, the mod ends, meaning that there is no final battle or anything like that for Mario to deal with.

To be fair, replicating gameplay mechanics from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl within the mod may seem to be extremely challenging, especially with Mario as the playable character and gameplay mechanics from Super Mario Galaxy coming into conflict. Nonetheless, seeing some of the iconic locations in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl‘s Sinnoh region is impressive enough, especially considering that the mod remake includes Gyms, Pokemon Centers, and a variety of buildings.

While on the subject of Pokemon remakes, one thing that is worth pointing out is that fans have been requesting Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes for some time now. Although Game Freak hasn’t made any official announcements, rumors have been circulating around the internet that suggest Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes are possibly in the works and that there will be some sort of an announcement in the future. Adding to that, since 2021 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, fans are hoping that Game Freak will finally announce the remakes.

For now however, as eager Pokemon fans all over the world await the possible announcement for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, they have mods like RiazorMC’s mod to look at and get an idea of what the real deal will be like.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are available on the Nintendo DS.
