The new Chinese market trailer of Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise has finally confirmed what we were all hoping for. The mighty Meowscular Chef will be coming to the big screen. Oh, and there’s a look at some more monsters too if you’re into that sort of thing.
In comparison to the previous trailer, the new Chinese trailer is less about Captain Natalie Artemis (Millia Jovovich) and her military team and more about how she and the Hunter (Tony Jaa) overcome the language barrier to take on the giant monsters that roam the land. There’s also a better look at the weapons they’ll be using which look pleasingly accurate to the original game.
Also in this new Chinese trailer, we get to see and hear Ron Perlman as the Admiral, the only English speaker in the strange land Natalie and her team find themselves in. And there’s appearances from several more monsters as the Hunter breathlessly calls their names, fans can expect to see Diabolos, Nerscylla, Apceros and Rathalos making their big screen debuts.
First introduced in Monster Hunter World, the brawny chef was once partner to the Admiral. Obsessed with bulking up his own body, Anderson has promised there’ll be a flirtatious relationship between the chef and Natalie. Watch for the kiss he blows towards the end of the trailer.
Monster Hunter will also be released earlier than expected after its release date was brought forward from April 2021 to December 2020. That move could see it do better than expected and replicate its sleeper hit success as a game into a decent box office.
Monster Hunter will be hitting theaters from December 30 2020.
