Destiny 2 Making Changes and Additions to Weapon Drops

This week has been an exciting one for Bungie, as Destiny 2: Beyond Light has finally launched and brought with it new content for players to explore. However, new content brings new problems, and those have kept Bungie busy amidst requests from players. Still, the developer has already outlined plans to honor one of the more common complaints within Destiny 2: Beyond Light – the limited weapon loot pool.

One of the recent critiques coming to Destiny 2 over the last week is that the loot pools, especially those related to world drops, are too limited. After sunsetting such a large portion of the weapon options, the viable choices have dwindled down dramatically. But in the latest “This Week at Bungie” post, Bungie has acknowledged this issue and would like players to know that a fix is in the works.

In a hotfix dropping into Destiny 2 alongside the new raid, Bungie is planning to rework how weapon drops function in the game by changing the weighting on some weapons. Specifically, the change is meant to weight weapon drops to make sure that new gear appears more often, while also removing weapons that are already near their infusion cap from world loot pools. This only solves half of the problem, however, which is why Bungie will also be bringing weapons back from previous seasons into the new loot pools in order to widen the variety of options to players.

The weapons that will be returning into the loot pools will be from seasons 10 and 11 and include the Seventh Seraph gear as well as seasonal and planetary reprisal weapons. It is Bungie’s hope that these returning weapons, along with the new gear from Destiny 2‘s upcoming raid, will be enough to keep activity and world rewards engaging through the Season of the Hunt. Along with removing the legendary weapons that will hit their infusion cap at the end of the season, there should be less disappointing drops as players continue to play through Beyond Light‘s new content.

Considering that many players have recently complained that Destiny 2: Beyond Light didn’t bring enough new weapons, drawing from previous seasons to fill out the loot pool will likely be a positive choice in the end. What that means for whether or not the sunsetting and vaulting in the first place was a good idea is still yet to be seen, however. It’s clear that this controversial decision was a risk, and Bungie is willing to adapt based on how players respond.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
