Following the release of the Beyond Light expansion on November 10, the next major piece finally arrived to Destiny 2 this past week. Season of the Hunt finally got under way and gave fans a significant portion of story to check out with Osiris, The Spider, and the return of Uldren Sov who now goes by the name Crow, unaware of who he was or the chaos he caused during the events of Forsaken.
Along with the narrative direction, Season of the Hunt introduces new missions that has players hunt down Wraithborn villains using the new Cryptolith Lure item. Similar to season’s past, the Cryptolith Lure is an upgradable device that allows players to target specific gear when taking on these missions. Increasing reputation with Crow allows further customizations before players go out to hunt these more powerful enemies.
For the second time in the Beyond Light era, the exotic merchant Xur is back again once more for Destiny 2 fans, bringing with him new items and loot to check out. Follow this guide for his location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of what he’s currently selling for the weekend of November 20, 2020.
This week, Xur is back on Nessus, though with Emperor Calus now placed firmly in the Vault and his barge now crashed, the exotic merchant has returned to his old location up the nearby massive tree.
From the Director, head to Nessus and load into Watcher’s Grave. Run towards the back of the zone where a massive tree is found. Jump up until players find the huge branch where the merchant is hanging out.
While Xur’s role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the new kiosk.
This week, players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.
Other than that, here are Xur’s three gear pieces this weekend:
Karnstein Armlets – Warlock Gauntlets
These are a strong Warlock exotic item, that gives the player added survivability thanks to its exotic perk. Upon a melee kill, Vampire’s Caress restores a large portion of health while also continuing to restore health for a short duration afterward.
This is an item that all Warlocks should have as it’s a very strong item in PvE situations and activities like Gambit, Escalation Protocol, or Blind Well where there are large groups of enemies to overcome. There are much better options for PvP players, but it’s a fun exotic to play around with otherwise.
Void Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +8
- Resilience +15
- Recovery +9
- Discipline +6
- Intellect +17
- Strength +6
Aeon Swift – Hunter Gauntlets
The big loser this week are Hunters as they get Aeon Swift, one of the worst exotics in the game. It’s been said numerous times but absolutely bears repeating: do not buy these.
The main reason is that they’re dependent on other players wearing Aeon gear in order to maximize the benefits from them. The Swift variant grants Grenade energy to Warlocks, Barricade energy to Titans, and Dodge energy to Hunters, once the player wearing the gear dodges. Players not part of the Aeon Cult (wearing their Aeon gear), only receive a fraction of the shared energy. Since players don’t wear this gear, they’re not very helpful. Again, these are a hard pass.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +7
- Resilience +15
- Recovery +11
- Discipline +10
- Intellect +6
- Strength +13
Synthoceps – Titan gauntlets
Biotic Enhancements, the item’s intrinsic perk, not only buffs the melee range, but when the player is surrounded by enemies, it also buffs damage. Similar to the Hunter’s exotic gauntlets Liar’s Handshake, this item can make Titan players very powerful.
While these have been a popular Titan exotic, buying this specific item is entirely up to the user and whether or not the stats on this is better than what they may already have. Thankfully, the stat rolls are pretty good on this item so it may be worth spending the shards on to get a better version of the exotic.
Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +14
- Resilience +7
- Recovery +10
- Discipline +2
- Intellect +15
- Strength +13
For better or worse, the Skyburner’s Oath scout rifle is back in stock after a few weeks. The defining feature of this weapon comes from its perk Slug Rifle which alters the firing rate of the weapon. Skyburner’s Oath lobs explosive rounds that get stronger and faster when aiming down the sights. So instead of lobbing shots that track when hip firing, aiming down the sights actually turns the fired rounds into a faster, straighter, and more damaging explosive bullet. It also does more damage to Cabal enemies and rips through Phalanx Shields.
Not much has changed since it was last featured and while it is a fun weapon, it remains very hard to recommend. There are just a ton of better options out there like SUROS Regime that should be used before this exotic. In addition, this weapon is also easily outclassed by other Scout Rifles in the game. Ultimately, it can be passed on.
Additional perks:
- Extended Barrel
- Extended Mag
- Short Action Stock
Here’s the complete rundown of Xur’s entire stock in Destiny 2 for November 20, 2020:
- Karnstein Armlets (Warlock gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Aeon Swift (Hunter gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
