PlayStation Teases Answer to Xbox Game Pass Service | Game Rant

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service has been a huge hit so far, giving players undeniable bang for their buck. For a relatively small fee, gamers across Android, PC, and Xbox can have instant access to over 100 games through Game Pass, including all major first-party Xbox games on their first day of release. Microsoft has since gone to great lengths to make Xbox Game Pass an even more attractive prospect to consumers, as it’s clearly a key component of its strategy moving forward. PlayStation has yet to have a real answer to Xbox Game Pass, but that may change in the future.

Speaking to TASS, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan stated that “there is actually news to come” in regards to PlayStation’s answer to Game Pass. Ryan also pointed out that Sony does have a subscription service through PlayStation Now, which allows users to live-stream PS3 and PS4 games. However, PlayStation Now doesn’t come close to matching the scope of Game Pass, as it’s comprised mainly of older titles and lacking the many other perks that a Game Pass subscription comes with.

Due to how commercially successful PlayStation exclusive games are, it doesn’t seem likely that the company will release its first-party PS5 games through a subscription service on day one like Microsoft is doing with Xbox Game Pass. However, it is clear that Sony is trying to compete against Game Pass, at least a little bit.

One big way that Sony has tried to fight back against Xbox Game Pass is with the new PlayStation Plus Collection. PlayStation Plus Collection is a new perk available to PS Plus subscribers on PS5 that gives them instant access to some of the PS4’s most highly-rated games. This includes a few of the console’s biggest multiplatform releases, as well as many of its high profile exclusives. The PS Plus Collection may not have the quantity that Game Pass does, but it certainly has significant quality.

Not only that, but the PS Plus Collection games are free to players forever as long as they stay subscribed to PlayStation Plus. Xbox Game Pass, meanwhile, rotates games in and out of the service, similarly to Netflix.

Perhaps part of PlayStation’s strategy against Xbox Game Pass will be to expand the PlayStation Plus Collection on PS5, or maybe the company has other plans up its sleeve. PlayStation fans and PS5 owners will just have to stay tuned to find out more.
