Rick and Morty‘s adventures usually involve bloody violence and heavy drinking. Yet somehow the foul mouthed interdimensional travelers have managed to carve a niche as ad spokesmen and their latest sees them bigging up Sony’s new baby, the PlayStation 5.
Released on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel, the 30 second short sees Morty listing the new features of Sony’s new baby while Rick sits on a couch counting money (subtle). And its description succinctly sums up the video thusly – “Hear all the marketing points PlayStation gave Rick to say about the new PlayStation 5 console, from Morty.”
This isn’t even the first time the duo have done advertising duties for PlayStation. In Nov 2019, they appeared in an ad for Kojima’s first post-Konami release Death Stranding walking through the wastelands of future USA deciding whether or not to eat the baby in the green jar.
Other brands that have featured in Rick and Morty include the Pringles Big Game ad that sees Beth and Rick finding out they’re trapped in a Pringles commercial while a robot Morty waxes lyrical about stacking different flavored chips. And Wendy’s, where upon traveling home from a Death Tournament, the pair are chased by a group of thugs made up of Wendy’s breakfast items, the breakfast Baconator, Frosty-ccino and the aggressive Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
In the meantime, Rick and Morty’s future looks healthy having been renewed for 70 more episodes (though a fan theory suggests that the show could end earlier than expected). And during the recent Rick and Morty virtual panel for the Adult Swim Festival, co-creator Dan Harmon gave some details about the upcoming season 5 and announced that work has already begun on season 7, but that’s a long way off. So go get a PS5. Or don’t, whatever. They get paid either way.
