UK Retailer Cancels PS5 Launch Day Sales | Game Rant

European fans eager to secure themselves Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console are having continued difficulty doing so. With the PlayStation 5 having launched in North America last week, European fans who missed out on pre-orders have looked on enviously for 7 days, hyping themselves for the opportunity to at least order the new console from today. One retailer UK fans flocked to was Currys PC World who, despite initially taking orders for the PlayStation 5, has now canceled all launch day sales plans.

Currys PC World’s website had reportedly been suffering from traffic issues and crashes all day due to PlayStation 5 demand. In a particularly stinging mishap, the retailer accidentally permitted new orders for Sony’s next-generation console to be made earlier than the allotted time. All those who had been able to get through to the site believing themselves to be in luck have since had their orders canceled.

Following a further delay, Currys PC World eventually announced it was canceling all sales outright, writing on Twitter that there “will be no PS5s available to buy today.” It acknowledged that this was “disappointing news” to fans but promised it was working “super hard” to accrue more stock.

Currys PC World wasn’t the only UK retailer to suffer from the surge of interest and demand. Huge UK retailer John Lewis also reportedly suffered difficulties and technical issues with its website, as did video game retailer Game.

In fact, despite Sony’s clever London-based advertising campaign, last night saw a wave of worry and frustration from UK-based PlayStation 5 fans who had pre-ordered the console after Game sent out an email warning them they may not receive the console on launch day. The email noted that for “reasons beyond the control of GAME,” its chosen delivery company, YODEL, had informed it “that not all orders due to be delivered by them will be delivered on release day.”

YODEL commented on the message, claiming that it had no delays reported for launch day. According to YODEL, it had been “consistently clear on the order volumes we are able to carry […].” The delivery company added how it was “deeply disappointing” to have seen its name “incorrectly used” in this matter.

Needless to say, the email enraged concerned fans who had been under the impression it was only a matter of hours before they could set up their new systems. It was later reported by Eurogamer that Game had sent out a subsequent email to those with pre-orders explaining that the “vast majority of orders will be delivered” on launch day. However, for those unlucky few, they should expect their brand new PlayStation 5 to arrive on Friday, November 20.
