Without a doubt, 2020 has been a different year for most, and that has likely made getting one of the newest consoles that much harder. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have sold out time and again, from the initial day for pre-orders to launch day and every moment they were up for sale in-between. For those who have yet to be able to purchase one, the next best chance may be Black Friday.
A couple of retailers have confirmed stock for both consoles on Black Friday, with more likely to be revealed soon, but there are a lot of stipulations depending on the location, the approach to the pandemic, and the availability of the consoles. Here’s the best places to find an Xbox Series X, when the sales will go available, and where they will be.
One thing to note is that, while there will be some availability on the console at most retailers, the console itself won’t be on sale. This is mostly due to the recent release of the console, as well as the incredible demand but low supply of the console. Getting hands on an Xbox Series X is diffuclt enough right now, so finding a discount would likely be impossible.
The Xbox Series X retails at $499.99. For those looking for something cheaper yet comparable, there is also the digital-only Xbox Series S that retails at $299.99. While exact stock amounts are not generally indicated, there seems to typically be less of the Series S, but of course, that’s going to vary based on the retailer.
According to GameStop, for its Black Friday sales, “all stores will have a minimum of two PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles at store opening. Limited one total console per customer. In stores while they last.” Notably, it seems some locations will likely have more of each next-gen console in stock, but no less. The language also excludes the Xbox Serie S, so it seems uncertain if there will be any of these in stock. This is one of few locations that will have consoles in-store, but they will likely be gone as soon as stores open.
Walmart’s Black Friday ad reveals that its stock of Xbox Series X consoles will be updated on November 25, 2 days before Black Friday. The ad shows the Xbox Series X, but not the Series S, so its stock remains uncertain. However, consumers should note that these consoles are only available online via Walmart.com at 4 PM PT/7 PM ET. Stock will almost certainly be limited, so preparation is recommended. Having shipping and payment information already on the purchasing account goes a long way in reducing time, and there’s no harm in attempting the purchase from both a mobile device and a computer.
It should be noted that Walmart has been drip-feeding more stock online via its website quite often. It’s recommended that those who would rather purchase an Xbox Series X through Walmart keep an eye on the website, as well as any Walmart social media.
PLEASE NOTE: As of this writing, the following websites have not updated any plans regarding the Xbox Series X on Black Friday. There is some pertinent information available, but until the retailers show their hands, exact stock and information is unknown. This article will be updated when these retailers reveal how they will be handling Xbox Series X sales.
There is no update in regards to Amazon’s Black Friday sales of the Xbox Series X. Chances are, however, that Amazon will have some in-stock. GameStop and Walmart may be the best bets as of this writing, but fans should not count Amazon out. Its presence as one of the biggest online retailers means that it’s likely to have stock, and for those who frequent Amazon, the checkout process can be quicker than some. This may make obtaining one on Black Friday that much easier.
Best Buy’s Black Friday ad shows an Xbox Series X, but information as to stock and availability has not been revealed. It should be noted that there will be no stock of the console in its brick and mortar stores.
Target’s Black Friday ad is available, but it has not made any information regarding the Xbox Series X and Black Friday available yet.
The above retailers are likely the easiest to pick up a console from, but there are other retailers that consumers should keep tabs on. This incudes the Microsoft Store itself, Newegg, Sam’s Club, and anywhere video games and consoles are sold. For now, good luck getting an Xbox Series X this holiday season!
Xbox Series X/S is available now.
