League Of Legends Wild Rift: 10 Best Champions For Beginners

With League of Legends Wild Rift, Riot Games finally took their acclaimed League of Legends IP and gave it a mobile makeover. This mobile counterpart really put in the effort when it came to translating the complexity of PC League‘s systems into a more bearable portable format. Only around 40 of its 140+ Champions made it to Wild Rift, at least as of this writing. Still, choosing from 40 Champions might feel overwhelming for newcomers.

So just which heroes should new players pay attention to? Which Champions should beginners pick to best acquaint them with the new style Wild Rift now offers to the mobile MOBA genre?

10 Garen (Fighter/Tank)

Among all Champions in League, Garen appears to have the most straightforward mechanics within lanes. In Wild Rift, Garen retains most of these perks, allowing players to go toe-to-toe with most Champions without worrying about resources. Garen’s Perseverance (Passive) gives him decent health generation, allowing him to retreat without going back to base. This Passive works well with Decisive Strike (S1) and Judgment (S3), as they give him a speed boost as well as decent attacks.

Meanwhile, he also comes with Courage (S1) which gives him decent damage reduction and crowd control resistance. Lastly, his Demacian Justice (Ultimate) deals massive AOE damage to enemies.

9 Ashe (Marksman/Support)

Despite her low-key appearance, Ashe the Frost Archer has one of the most versatile Marksman kits in the game. Her Frost Shot (Passive) enables her to focus on slow effects, with her crits becoming more powerful slows. Meanwhile, her Hawkshot (S3) allows her to use her Hawk Spirit to scout the map for targets. These all come to a head whenever she uses her other abilities.

Ashe gets Focus whenever she attacks. She can use Ranger’s Focus (S1) to use her Focus to get an attack speed boost and create flurries instead of single-arrow basic attacks. Her Volley (S2) also fires arrows in a cone that applies her Passive. Lastly, Enchanted Crystal Arrow (Ult) is an ice arrow players can guide that stuns Champions for longer periods of time the farther it’s traveled, alongside dealing AOE to surrounding enemies.

8 Annie (Mage/Support)

Lovable Annie and Tibbers have made their way to Wild Rift as early as its Alpha stages. However, it makes sense for Annie to be a must-pick for beginners given her straightforward toolkit. Her Pyromania (Passive) gives her a free stun if she casts an offensive spell after casting four spells. This ability works in tandem with Disintegrate (S1), as it lets Annie summon a fireball that refunds the Mana and cooldown if the attack kills the target. Meanwhile, Incinerate (S2) unleashes a fire cone that deals AOE.

She also has defensive abilities, such as Molten Shield (S3), which enables her to cast a shield that absorbs damage and deals damage to the shield’s attackers. Lastly, her Summon: Tibbers (Ult) enables Annie to have backup in the form of Tibbers.

7 Sona (Support/Mage)

Sona’s nature as a Support/Mage hinges on skill combination, as her “songs” (spells) also grant bonuses to nearby allies. Additionally, her Power Chord (Passive) gives both a magic damage boost and an additional effect based on Sona’s third spell cast. Her primary damage spell is Hymn of Valor (S1), which damages two nearby enemies and gives allies a temporary damage boost. Her Crescendo (Ult) also deals massive damage to enemies while stunning them.

Meanwhile, Sona has a healthy mix of support abilities. For instance, her Aria of Perseverance (S2) heals wounded allies and gives them a protective shield. Lastly, Song of Celerity (S3) gives Sona and her nearby allies a speed boost.

6 Master Yi (Assassin/Fighter)

Players who want to train on using Assassins and more complex kits would appreciate Master Yi. Despite his rather flexible nature, Master Yi’s kit remains simple enough for beginners to play around with. For instance, his Double Strike (Passive) enables him to strike twice in some basic attacks. However, players might soon realize that depending on their item, Master Yi’s Wuju Style (S3) gives bonus true damage on basics that, combined with Double Strike, can deal devastating damage without using skills.

Meanwhile, Alpha Strike (S1) enables Master Yi to attack multiple units within a target path without being targetable himself. His basics also reduce S1’s cooldown. Additionally, Meditate (S2) grants him healing and damage reduction. Lastly, Highlander (Ult) not only boosts his movement and attack speed but makes him immune to slow as well.

5 Dr. Mundo (Fighter/Tank)

Despite his hulking appearance, Dr. Mundo’s kit introduces players to the game’s more complex combat options in a non-overwhelming way. In his case, some of his abilities work better whenever he has more or less Health in battle. For instance, his Adrenaline Rush (Passive) allows Dr. Mundo to constantly regain 1-percent of his total Health per second. Meanwhile, his Infected Cleaver (S1) not only slows opponents but deals damage based on their Health as well as a bit of lifesteal.

Meanwhile, Burning Agony (S2) allows Dr. Mundo to drain his own Health to deal damage and decrease disable duration. He can use this to tap into Masochism (S3) to boost his attack damage and gain magic resist whenever he receives damage. Lastly, Sadism (Ult) lets him sacrifice Health to gain a massive Health regeneration and Movement Speed boost.

4 Miss Fortune (Marksman/Mage)

Everyone’s favorite bounty hunter returns to Wild Rift to unleash havoc with her signature straightforward kit in League. Miss Fortune’s Love Tap (Passive) gives bonus damage whenever she hits new targets, encouraging her to cycle between enemies. Meanwhile, her Strut (S2) gives her a passive speed boost whenever she isn’t attacking, or activates for bonus attack speed. Her Passive also reduces the cooldown for this skill.

Her heavy-hitters come from her other skills. Her Double Up (S1) damages an enemy in front of her and crits a target behind them. Meanwhile, Make It Rain (S3) deals AOE damage and slows enemies. Lastly, Bullet Time (Ult) unleashes an AOE in a cone that deals a ton of damage.

3 Lux (Mage/Support)

Lux demonstrates an easier way of handling a Champion with a Support-oriented toolkit. In Wild Rift, Lux returns with a light-based theme that enables her to control the tide of battle. For instance, Illumination (Passive) lets Lux “charge” enemies with her damaging spells and give her next attack a damage boost. Her Prismatic Barrier (S2) also gives a handy shield to allies that pass her wand.

Meanwhile, her crowd control comes with her other skills. Light Binding (S1) allows her to throw a sphere that binds up to two enemies. Additionally, her Lucent Singularity (S3) slows nearby enemies in an area that she can also detonate for damage. Lastly, her Final Spark (Ult) unleashes a harsh light beam that refreshes her Passive.

2 Janna (Support/Mage)

For Janna, speed is everything. Her wind-themed kit in Wild Rift allows her to boost her and her allies’ movement speed while decreasing her opponent’s. Her Tailwind (Passive) boosts Janna and her nearby allies’ movement speed. She imparts the same benefits to herself with Zephyr (S2), which also summons an air elemental that damages and slows enemies.

Meanwhile, her Howling Gale (S1) creates a storm that increases in size that deals damage and knockdown to enemies. Additionally, her Eye of the Storm (S3) gives allies a temporary shield that boosts their defense and attack damage. Lastly, Monsoon (Ult) unleashes a storm around Jana that pushes enemies away while healing nearby allies.

1 Seraphine (Mage/Support)

Newcomer Seraphine offers quite an easy-to-use kit as a Support songstress. Her Stage Presence (Passive) enables her to cast her third spell twice while granting Notes to allies. The more Notes her allies have, the stronger Seraphine’s basic attacks become. Her High Note (S1) is an AOE that deals more damage when enemies have less health. Meanwhile, her Beat Drop (S3) focuses on slowing, rooting, or stunning enemies.

Additionally, her Surround Sound (S2) shields allies and gives them movement speed as well as healing. Lastly, Encore (Ult) damages and slows enemies on a line that extends if it touches enemy Champions and other allies.
