Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Increase Storage Space in House

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has widely been received as a delightful game that fans have enjoyed all year, starting with its successful launch in March. Although the game has a massive following, there are certainly things that fans have been asking for in terms of new content and quality of life changes. One of the requests has been more house storage in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and finally, Nintendo has answered the call, adding more storage to meet the needs of players.

With the big Winter Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, fans can expect everything from holiday events, like Turkey Day and Toy Day, to brand new and more diverse hairstyles. Perhaps the best part of the update in terms of practical functionality is increased storage space. Players can now go from having a 1,600 item storage limit to 2,400. That 50% increase in space goes a long way.

Increasing the storage size in Animal Crossing: New Horizons takes two things; time and money (Bells). But for those who play Animal Crossing: New Horizons regularly, and for those who like to collect and explore, the additional storage space may prove to be the best thing among everything in the Winter Update for AC:NH.

To obtain the additional storage, players must have first fully upgraded their house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Specifically, this means that the house must have four total rooms on the first floor, an upstairs room, and a basement. Additionally, all the loans need to have been paid off for these renovations. Once this is done, the storage limit can be upgraded to 2,400 from 1,600.

The last step is going back to Tom Nook and Resident Services. From here, players can talk to Tom Nook about upgrading the storage space in the home. However, it is not cheap. Creating more space costs a pretty 500,000 Bells. Compared to adding a basement or second floor (which costs millions), however, the cost isn’t too bad.

Part of the fun of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is following the game through its evolutions. Thanks to changes in the environment, new critters and fish to capture, ongoing events, and more, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continually feels fresh. If Nintendo is to keep this up, and players are to come along for the journey for the months and perhaps even years to come, so obtaining more storage space for the house is an absolute must.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
