The next-generation of video games has arrived, and fans are rushing to retail stores and refreshing Twitter feeds in hopes to get their hands on the new consoles. Everyone has their favorite, and many arguments have taken place on whether or not the PS5 or Xbox Series X is better. Recently, FaZe Banks chimed in with his opinion.
The console wars debate has been ongoing for decades. Whether it is Sega vs Nintendo or PlayStation vs Xbox, fans will always fight over which is best. FaZe Banks thinks it is a pointless conversation, however, because he thinks that everyone should scrab the consoles and build a gaming PC.
Recently a video was posted on Twitter of FaZe Banks, who is one of the co-owners of FaZe Clan, coming out of a building and being asked about the new consoles. FaZe had a somewhat controversial answer. Instead of picking one of the two, FaZe shouted expletives towards the Xbox and PlayStation and claimed that gamers should be building a PC instead.
There are many reasons to build a gaming PC over the console alternative. PCs have more options in terms of games and store, the ability to mod, the precision of a keyboard and house, and more. Perhaps the biggest plus, in the eyes of many, is that a PC can be upgraded. While Sony may end up selling a PS5 Pro with upgraded hardware in a few years, PC players can simply buy a new graphics card.
However, console players shouldn’t be discouraged to purchase the console they want. There are still exclusive games that can only be found on home consoles, and cheating issues are much less rampant on home consoles. Many simply enjoy playing games on a couch and TV, as opposed to a desk. Additionally, buying or building a PC for cheap isn’t easy. If someone were to build a PC today that is equivalent to the Xbox Series X or PC, it would cost upwards of $1,000, and maybe even more. The PC gaming community also updates aspects of the PC every couple of years, meaning additional purchases. Spending thousands of dollars to build and upgrade a PC is something that not everyone can afford, which is perhaps going over FaZe Banks’ head.
The only thing sillier than the decades-old console wars debate is the argument that the PC is the superior way to play, and that other options are simply lesser-than. The reality is that video games are better when there are options, and even with cross-play advancements, gamers can enjoy playing together across systems. Just like it was entirely possible to purchase an Xbox One the day it came out in 2013 and use that as the only console for the entire generation, players will do the same this generation with the affordable Xbox Series S. There is nothing wrong with loving and enjoying a $200 Switch Lite as the user’s only gaming device. Gamers should play however they please, and that is more possible than ever today, which is a great thing.
