All signs point to Fornite heading toward a massive game-changing event at full speed. The upcoming Galactus appearance promises to bring everything from a huge battle to the possible return of Fortnite‘s launch pads.
What is less clear, however, is what state Fortnite will be in once the Galactus event is over. The current Marvel crossover is one of the biggest, most popular seasons so far, with tons of new, off-the-wall content being added. The question of where Fortnite goes from here is on many players’ minds. However, a good deal of info about the event itself has surfaced thanks to dataminers, and according to this a “black hole” reboot may follow Galactus.
Before the advent of the Marvel crossover, the “black hole” event was easily the biggest occurrence in Fortnite‘s history. As players played their regular matches, a black hole appeared and consumed the entire map. The game was unavailable for days afterward, with no explanation, culminating in Fortnite Chapter 2. Some info from one dataminer indicates that there will be some similar downtime after the Galactus event. This rings similar to the “black hole” event, and with the countdown to Galactus active, players may be in for more changes than they think.
The downtime is not new knowledge, as the Galactus event takes place on December 1, but indicators point to Season 5 starting on December 3. If the game goes down during the intervening day, there’s a good chance it will come back altered. It was already known that the Galactus event will be huge, but this means there’s a real chance it could even reshape the map. The “to be continued” bit of this leak also indicates the Marvel crossover may not be finished, even if the current map layout is.
The fact that the Marvel event may continue may actually prove to be a good thing. Fortnite is considered by some to be a better Marvel game than Marvel’s Avengers, and many of its changes directly relating to Marvel properties have gone over well. If it continues this way, it could open new avenues that regular Fortnite couldn’t tread.
A little map reshaping has also become a regular part of Fortnite‘s updates, especially with its superhero-themed content. Hopefully if the map does undergo a mass reshaping, the developers will keep what works while throwing away what doesn’t. A complete overhaul at this point may turn out to be ill advised.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
