Epic Games’ popular battle royale Fortnite released over three years ago and has offered tons of added content like weapons, skins, map changes, and more. It seems like every season, Epic Games takes things a step further and offers more content to players. Fortnite has featured more customization and added a creative mode that allows players to craft their own Fortnite world, and now according to reliable leaker Lucas7Yoshi, Fortnite may be adding mod support.
Lucas7Yoshi took to Twitter to let his followers know about the possibly future addition. Lucas7Yoshi claims that modding support is coming to Fortnite, but does not know to what extent. However the leaker also claims that its “100% in the works.” If modding support does come to Fortnite, it may give players even more freedom to change cosmetics and possibly more.
Another question that many may be asking is how mods would be regulated. If mods are only available on PC, some players may claim it could lead to a platform advantage. However, Epic Games may limit mods to certain game modes like creative or private matches, or limit mods to simple texture and skin changes like allowing player-created Fortnite weapon wraps.
Many titles have incredibly active modding communities who are constantly putting out new content. Games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Skyrim have tons of mods available. Mods can benefit any title, but typically work well with RPG and open-world adventure games that have deep customization options to start with. Multiplayer games do have to be careful about allowing mods, as other players may be affected.
Leaker Lucas7Yoshi’s claim of modding support coming to Fortnite may be confirmed sooner rather than later. Fortnite is wrapping up Chapter 2 Season 4, which will end on November 30. This season has featured a Marvel Nexus War, with a Marvel Knockout LTM and many Marvel characters like Black Widow added as skins into the game.
For a long time, fans were upset about the lack of content added to creative mode, but Fortnite answered with a large update that expanded the creative hub. Players have shown off the capabilities of creative mode by recreating Fall Guys levels, and even multiplayer levels from Call of Duty like Rust and Highrise. If Fortnite does support mods in the future, the door could open to seemingly limitless customization options.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
