Geoff Keighley Explains How The Game Awards Will Look This Year

The Game Awards are held each year to honor developers, publishers, artists, content creators, and everybody else involved in the gaming industry; though this year may look a little different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With lockdowns and stay-at-home orders still in effect in many locations around the world, the 2020 Game Awards is taking a digital approach to the night.

The 2020 Game Awards are scheduled for December 1o and will be streamed live on over 45 global video platforms. Previous Game Awards have been held in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, but this year with no live audience, The Game Awards will be broadcast from three different studios located in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo. Producer and Host of The Game Awards Geoff Keighley recently shared how The Game Awards will differ from previous years.

Keighley emphasizes that The Game Awards will have everything that viewers love, including a fully live show, video game world premieres and announcements, and will maintain the tradition of live music performances. Keighley also shares that a virtual show format will allow The Game Awards to have special guests like developers from all over the world from the safety of their homes or studios.

By having three separate broadcasting locations, The 2020 Game Awards will have multiple events happening at different locations. According to Keighley, there will be special events and performances from both Tokyo and London, including a special performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra from the famous Abbey Road Studio. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most prestigious orchestras and has recorded scores for both the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

The 2020 Game Awards is slated to be an exciting show with many big-name nominees for categories like Game of the Year, Best Audio and Music, Best Indie Game, Content Creator of the Year, and many more. Game of the Year is the most coveted award, with titles like Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us 2 among the nominees. However, The Game Awards also honors many smaller categories, like Best Game for Impact, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Community Support.

Although the 2020 award nominees will not be able to accept the awards in front of a live audience, there will still be plenty of celebration from the interactive digital viewers. The Game Awards will feature different ways for fans and viewers to interact and participate in the ceremony. Viewers will be able to interact through social media, in-game events, and extensions on popular streaming sites, with more information about viewer interaction being released closer to the show.
