A good horse in Red Dead Online is irreplaceable and can dictate your ability to rank up faster. Details are important when it comes to choosing the proper horse, as most of the horses are tailored for specific playstyles. Unlike in Red Dead Redemption 2, outlaws of Red Dead Online do not have the ability to catch wild horses, so investing in a good one early is essential.

10 Amber Champaign Missouri Fox Trotter (Best)

If an outlaw is ever traveling through the Scarlet Meadows and has cash to burn, buying an Amber Champaign Missouri Fox Trotter is a great way to spend it. The Amber Champaign Missouri Fox Trotter unlocks at Rank 58 and costs $950.00 for 38 gold bars. This horse falls under the superior category and is known for its insane speed. Once bonded to an outlaw, the Amber Champaign Missouri Fox Trotter may be the fastest in Red Dead Online.

9 Bay Roan Morgan (Worst)

The Morgan horse breed is the most basic horse a player can get their hands on.

This small horse is really designed for riding and nothing else. It has a very low speed score of 30 that will gradually get better as it bonds to its rider, yet it is very skittish and will leave a player to the wolves, literally. On the plus side a player can buy this horse for just $55 or 3 gold bars in Valentine.

8 Black Arabian (Best)

The Black Arabian is a beautiful specimen to behold when galloping in full stride. The Black Arabian can only be purchased in San Denis and cost a pretty penny. This god of a horse will cost an outlaw $1050 or 42 gold bars and unlocks at Rank 70. The Black Arabian is arguably the best horse in all of Red Dead Online. Its greatest strength is its handling and ability to take turns on the dirt roads on a dime.  

7 Kentucky Saddler (Worst)

The Kentucky Saddler in any variation is a standard horse with nearly no growth as it bonds with a player. Its overall score is 28 and can be found in every stable in the world of Red Dead Online. Players can buy this horse at Rank 1 for the small fee of just $50 or 2 gold bars. If an outlaw needs a secondary horse early on it’s not bad, but players will get little return in their investment.

6 Brindle Thoroughbred (Best)

Thoroughbred is an English horse bred specifically for racing. These horses have a high top speed but lack stamina and health. The Brindle Thoroughbred unlocks at Rank 51 and is a beautiful beast that is good to have as a standby horse.

An outlaw can find this horse at the stables in Strawberry for the price of $450 or 15 gold bars. If an outlaw is on a budget and wants to participate in races this horse is absolutely perfect. 

5 Light Grey Shire (Worst)

This horse is massive and was bred for towing and pulling wagons. Shires throughout history have held records of being the largest and tallest horses. This British bred horse is not very fast but has a decent health score 40 and is very mild tempered. An outlaw can purchase this giant for $120.00 or 5 gold bars at Rank 15. The Light Grey Shire is not a bad starting horse but needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

4 Dark Bay Turkoman Horse (Best)

The Dark Bay Turkoman comes from the deserts of Turkoman and have influenced many thoroughbred horses. This horse is good for out running the law and is cool headed in heated gun battles. Its most defining trait is its durability, coming in with a health score of 70, this horse can take a bruising and keep cruising. If an outlaw is looking to saddle up on this magnificent horse he or she can purchase it in Blackwater.

3 Red Roan Tennessee Walker (Worst)

The Tennessee Walker breed is known for its beauty and smooth handling. These horses were bred to have amazing Stamina and a calm temperament. It’s not a bad starter horse for outlaws who have very little cash in their Satchel. The Red Roan Tennessee Walker is available at Rank 1 costs  $60 or 3 gold bars. On the down side this horse does not improve much once fully bonded, which makes the value of theTennessee Walker drop dramatically.

2 Grey Overo American Paint Horse (Best)

The Grey Overo American Paint Horse is a great horse to have for its reasonable price. This horse is nothing fancy but is reliable and cheap enough to invest in early and be rewarded. The Grey Overo American Paint Horse costs $425.00 or 17 gold bars and can be bought in Tumbleweed. It unlocks at Rank 55 and has a decent overall score of 44. It’s not the fastest or the strongest but it gets the job done. 

1 Suffolk Punch (Worst)

The Suffolk Punch is a rare horse that is nearing extinction. Its name was inspired by Suffolf in East Anglia. This horse breed is strong and hearty, but very slow and its handling is unimpressive. Outlaws have seen this horse multiple times on the road pulling carriages that are loaded down with precious cargo. Outlaws can buy this horse at any stable in Red Dead Online at Rank 18 for $120 or 5 gold bars.
