Virtual reality tends to lend itself well to games based on swinging swords around, as titles like Beat Saber and Blade and Sorcery have shown. Another example of this is Swords of Gargantua, which will soon be available to more players than ever before when it debuts on PlayStation VR in a few weeks.
Swords of Gargantua has been available for the Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and HTC Vive since it first came out last year, and today developer Thirdverse (formerly known as Yomuneco) confirmed that it will be adding PSVR to that list on December 8. The game will be available on that day worldwide in both English and Japanese, priced at $29.99.
When it finally arrives, players will be able to engage in “hyper-realistic” swordplay against hordes of enemies as they try to make their way through 100 floors of the Tesseract Abyss on their way to a final showdown with the titan Gargantua. Spicing things up will be an arsenal of over 30 different weapons including one and two-handed swords, axes, maces, boomerangs, shields, and more, as well as roguelike elements that ensure each run will be unique.
Unlike other roguelikes such as Hades and Spelunky, players will keep all of the items they earn, and will be able to combine excess weapons into stronger ones for future runs. What’s more, Swords of Gargantua will let players group up and take on the Tesseract Abyss in teams of four. However, it’s not yet clear if cross-play support, a feature in the Oculus and Vive versions of the game, will be supported on PSVR, but it won’t be long until players can find out.
Swords of Gargantua is available for PC and Oculus, and will launch on December 8 for PlayStation VR.
