Finally, players all around the world are able to enjoy their Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles, with tons of players enjoying both of Ubisoft‘s new cross-generation titles. It goes without saying but both consoles have some amazing launch games to test out each machine’s capabilities.
Unfortunately, it seems like players who are just getting their console’s in Europe are experiencing some issues with upgrading two of Ubisoft’s latest games. Specifically, players are having issues upgrading both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion from the PS4 versions to the PS5 versions of each game.
The news comes straight from European console owners who have been trying to upgrade their last-generation versions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion up to their current-gen versions. It seems that this issue stems from the physical version of the game, as one user started a thread saying they were unable to upgrade their physical version of Valhalla after putting the disc into their PS5 console. Unfortunately, it seems like the prompt to receive the free upgrade for the game isn’t showing up at all for some users.
It’s worth noting that this has developed into a larger problem on PS5. Many users have taken to social media and public forums to vent their frustration with PS5’s lack of clarity when it comes to what version a certain game is. PS5 and PS4 game confusion is causing a lot of players to spend time downloading last-gen versions of games on PS5, resulting in a lot of annoyed console owners online. However, this issue with Ubisoft’s two titles doesn’t necessarily seem to be strictly related to the PS5’s lack of version clarity.
Thankfully, Ubisoft caught wind of the issue and was able to provide a fix and step-by-step instructions to help users upgrade their games. The instructions for how to upgrade Valhalla and Legion’s last-gen versions will be available at the bottom of the page. While the issue is no doubt frustrating, Ubisoft’s instructions should hopefully help players upgrade their games. There is a pretty long list of last-gen titles getting free upgrades but unfortunately, it seems that Ubisoft’s two main games are the ones giving players the most trouble.
Though both the Xbox Series X and PS5 were able to launch successfully this year, it wasn’t without its fair share of hiccups. From each console’s pre-order debacle to the various hardware issues some owners are reporting, it seems that not everyone has had a smooth transition to next-gen. Still, both Sony and Microsoft are hard at work making firmware and software updates to patch out some of the more annoying issues that console owners are having.
Ubisoft’s instructions are as follows:
- Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
- Go to the game hub for the PS4 game. Users must select “VIEW PRODUCT”
- Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
- Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
- After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.
