Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – How to Do the Nuketown ’84 Easter Egg

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s rendition of Nuketown releases today. With the launch of Nuketown ’84, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War continues the series tradition of including an Easter egg.

Every game in Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops series has included an iteration of Nuketown since its inception in 2010. Although it officially releases today, some players accessed Nuketown ’84 days ago due to a glitch.

Nuketown ’84’s Easter Egg will be familiar to veterans of the franchise – mannequins. The non-sentient citizens of Nuketown are once again the key to the map’s Easter Egg, but with a unique twist. To complete it, players need to shoot the heads off all of the mannequins on the map within 60 seconds. It should be noted that there isn’t a set order in which they need to be destroyed. Players can find a route that works for them, or even follow the video below. Judging by the clip, there are about 17 mannequins in need of decapitation. If a player is successful, a purple and blue filter fades onto the screen, creating a very 80s synthwave vibe. The retro visuals are further complemented by a synthwave track playing.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Nuketown Easter Egg is fitting with the restyled map, which features retro graffiti and arcade machines. Getting to all of the mannequins does require quite a bit of traversal. Players will certainly have a much easier time pulling the feat off in a custom game. Given how chaotic Nuketown gets and the recent bug causing players to fall through maps in multiplayer, it’s nearly impossible to do in a public match.

Black Ops Cold War‘s 1984 setting perfectly complements this Easter egg, and differentiates it from prior entries. In the original Black OpsSympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones would play. In Black Ops 3, a more sinister Easter Egg brought the mannequins to life to explicitly attack the player. Cold War’s version is much less threatening and adds a cool vibe to the map. Despite many gamers well into grinding through the game, there are still a lot of hidden secrets in Cold War many players have yet to find.

Nuketown remains arguably the most iconic Call of Duty map, and this latest rendition looks to continue that trend. Even players who aren’t interested in the Easter egg will want to hop on, as the popular map is dropping alongside a double XP week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
