Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Raid Boss Beaten By Three-Guardian Team

The first raid in Destiny 2: Beyond Light released over the weekend and there are plenty of Guardians still struggling to clear it. Others have not only done so but are now taking things a step further by upping the difficulty and seeing what they can accomplish. Their efforts have paid off, as one fireteam has managed to down the final boss of the raid with only three players.

It seems impossible for anyone who has played the Destiny 2 encounter. The mechanics are hard enough for six Guardians, let alone half that, but a fireteam consisting of Twitch streamers Sean “Gladd” Gallagher, “AyyItsChevy,” and “Aoterra” somehow got through this tricky encounter. Not without a lot of trial and error, of course. The group failed many times before finally finishing off Taniks, The Abomination, and the video capturing the feat is as nerve-wracking as it is impressive.

It isn’t something many would recommend to Guardians without the skills these three exhibits. Gladd, for example, was part of a fireteam that downed Taniks in one damage phase and Aoterra is a member of Luminous, the clan declared world first in beating the Deep Stone Crypt raid. Coordination and communication were key, and even then it wasn’t easy. They were running low on time and ammo and resorted to a final sword strike to finish the job. The video documenting the event is worth a watch if for nothing else than tips in dealing with adds and dolling out massive damage in a short amount of time.

Guides and tips are helpful, but there’s something to be said about diving into Deep Stone Crypt blind first and learning the mechanics the way Bungie intended. It’s harder, sure, but also more rewarding. The fireteam that attempts it this way will be able to bond and form a special type of synergy that only comes from learning something new together. Whatever way Guardians decide to take on the new raid, be ready to be tested, but also to have a lot of fun. For those that just want to get in and get it done, they can always read up on a guide to Deep Stone Crypt to prepare. There are plenty of great rewards for those that complete it.

Speaking of rewards, that fancy new exotic sword, The Lament, is finally available in-game now that the raid has been completed by the initial brave fireteams that jumped in on day one. Thankfully, for those who want this amazing-looking sword—with a freaking chainsaw blade–it isn’t too difficult. It really comes down to a few simple quests, one of which involves finding blade pieces in the Glassway Strike. There’s also an interesting bit of story that goes along with the questline.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
