More Xbox Series X is Being Manufactured Than Xbox Series S; Phil Spencer Says

The next generation of consoles that includes PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S is finally here, but grabbing one isn’t that easy as it seems. While some of the popular retailers such as GameStop are selling a limited amount of these consoles via their Black Friday Sales, buying one amid this on-going pandemic isn’t really a walk in the park.

Microsoft confirmed earlier this week that the shortage of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S console will continue till the first half of 2021. This means it won’t be until April-May 2021 that the customers could just walk into their nearest retail shop to get one without a hassle. While getting an Xbox Series S is still relatively easy in countries such as India, it’s the shortage of the more powerful Xbox Series X that has made the matter more frustrating, especially with the holiday season in sight.

While at the first glance it may seem that more Xbox Series S consoles are being manufactured than its older sibling, Xbox Series X, Phil Spencer says otherwise. In an interview with The Verge, he reveals that Microsoft is doubling down on manufacturing more Xbox Series X consoles than Xbox Series S to meet up the high demand. He says, “We figured that our first holiday, and probably our second holiday, you would see more of the higher-end SKU, the Series X sold.” Spencer also said that he ultimately expects Xbox Series S to take the helm, thanks to its shockingly low price.

While the pandemic has interfered with the logistics, this isn’t the only reason for the low shortage of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles at the moment. According to Phil Spencer, the manufacturing of these consoles started “late summer,” thereby falling a little behind in time when compared to the PS5. “We were waiting for some specific AMD technology in our chip,” he says.

While next-generation Xbox consoles suffer from this unfortunate manufacturing issue, the PS5 is dealing with a scalper situation. The people involved here are selling the PS5, across the globe, at an insanely high price, sometimes even double the amount of what it would normally cost. As it seems, getting both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this holiday season is a difficult task and fans should rather hold out a while longer rather than flocking around these scalpers to buy an overly priced console that is also riddled with a plethora of launch issues.

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have now launched globally.
