Pokemon GO has maintained an extremely active user base throughout the years with new mechanics and events on a pretty frequent basis. One such addition is Pokemon GO‘s raised level cap, which has allowed fans to become stronger than ever before.
For the month of December, Niantic has decided to give players a plethora of activities to do to celebrate the season. The holiday update for Pokemon GO includes new Research Breakthrough encounters to face either Lapras or Unovan Darumaka, Pokemon Spotlight Hours that give bonuses for catching certain Pokemon, and Double Catch XP Bonuses to help trainers with leveling up. Niantic has even created a new tagging function to help trainers organize their Pokemon based on aspects such as type and region.
Another part of the updates includes the implementation of two new raid bosses, Kyurem and Mega Abomasnow. These Pokemon will only be available for a limited time through the month of December. So for players looking to grab those special items or boost their party with ice type Pokemon fit for the season, here is the overall available time to play against them.
The legendary ice dragon Kyurem will start appearing in five star raids from Tuesday, December 1st at 1 pm and will disappear on January 1, 2021, at 1 pm PST. As an ice dragon, Kyurem will be especially weak to fighting, rock, steel, dragon, and fairy type attacks. So keep that in mind when selecting a team to face against it.
For Mega Abomasnow, it will appear in Pokemon GO Mega Raids starting on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 1 pm PST. Mega Abomasnow is an ice and grass type Pokemon, so using fighting, flying, poison, rock, bug, steel, or fire type moves will all prove useful against it. Mega Blastoise will also be appearing at a more frequent rate for Mega Raids until Mega Abomasnow comes in at December 1st, so fans should cash in on that opportunity as often as they can.
Hopefully, this update helps players looking to entertain themselves this season with their favorite festive Pokemon. Niantic is creating a temporary extension for Pokemon GO bonuses until June 2021, so there is plenty to gain from this event while staying at home.
Whichever way one wants to celebrate, Niantic does want to remind fans that these events are still subject to change. Along with that, the company wants to make sure its fans are being aware of their surroundings and still following local guidelines when it comes to outdoor use while playing this game.
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
