When it comes to Easter Eggs, the Battlefield franchise has always been a haven for some highly entertaining secrets, with each game offering up a variety of jokes and references. Whether Battlefield 5‘s pyrotechnic-heavy crab rave or Battlefield 1 ability to summon a colossal shark from the ground, the team over at DICE always looks to include some interesting secrets for fans inquisitive enough to sniff them out.
It seems Battlefield 5‘s most recent update included yet another of these fun additions, with the game now allowing players to reload weapons using the power of telekinesis. Shown off in a video from Jackfrags, the new Easter Egg sees two mysterious books pop up in the game world, with one discovered on Al Marge Encampment and the other on Provence.
The title for both books is “M1 Garand: The Magic That Won the War,” which is pretty fitting considering what these novels are capable of. Gathering a four-person squad around either of the in-game items will allow each player to interact with them, with the soldiers levitating the book in the air until it disappears. The only essential requirement is that at least one player must be wielding an M1 Garand. Once the action is complete, everyone who had an M1 Garand on them will suddenly notice a particularly interesting change to their reloading animation.
Now, the player’s character will levitate their rifle in the air and psychokinetically insert ammunition into it before returning it to their hands. Additionally, they’ll be able to add the grenade attachment using their newfound magical powers as well. The pair of animations are incredibly detailed and a fun easter egg to discover while playing Battlefield 5 with a few friends. Jackfrags reveals that the telekinetic powers only last until the player dies and cannot be reacquired during the same round players first snagged them.
Interestingly, the YouTuber also points out that the M1 Garand book’s author bears the initials O.W, speculating that the creator is likely an animator over at DICE by the name of Oskar Wetterbrandt. The Easter Egg is yet another fun and involved secret for players to discover in Battlefield 5. Other popular recent Easter Eggs have emerged from several of 2020’s biggest blockbusters, with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla referencing Lord of the Rings, Miles Morales featuring an allusion to the X-Men, and Astro’s Playroom referring to pretty much every PlayStation franchise it possibly could.
Battlefield 5 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
