With Marvel’s Avengers currently on-sale through multiple outlets (at the time of this writing), and with the Kate Bishop major update coming December 8th, now is as good a time as any to take a deep dive with this game if you haven’t already.
Iron Man is one of the most versatile characters in the game thanks to his punishing long-range attacks, speed, and flight. With multiple weapons systems available to him, Iron Man provides a bit more customization freedom than the other characters and this list will help you narrow down the critical things to focus on.
10 Focus Range/Precision
With the vast majority of Iron Man’s damage output coming from your lasers, repulsors, and rockets, it’s highly important that all players invest as much as they can in precision with their gear, raising Iron Man’s ranged damage.
Although it’s certainly beneficial to spread your stats a little to areas like defense and heroics, your standard ranged attacks will be what you use most by a longshot, and properly boosting your precision stat will make your Iron Man all the more powerful.
9 That Said… If You Like Lasers, Invest In ‘Might’ A Bit
This is an important, and lesser-known, fact about Iron Man in the game. While some laser attacks are tied to precision (like the aim attack), Iron Man’s deadly laser ground sweeps are tied to the might stat. While this doesn’t make much sense to fans, it’s not a game-breaking issue.
These ground sweeps are the strongest usage of Iron Man’s lasers and a great way to deal with crowds of enemies. If you favor lasers, then you should be harvesting some stats like precision in favor of boosting might.
8 Every Weapon Has Its Use
Between repulsors, lasers, and rockets, Iron Man provides players a variety of ways to take down their enemies. What makes these weapons shine is that they each feel unique and strong in their own right, with some weapons being more effective in certain situations than others.
As Iron Man, we advise that players never overcommit to one weapon. Being able to switch your weapons on the fly will allow you to be a more effective player, dealing with targets quickly and efficiently depending on what you’re fighting.
7 Rockets Hit Hard
If fans had to choose a favorite weapon to use with Iron Man, most would probably choose rockets. Between lasers, rockets, and repulsors, rockets hit the hardest and cause the most stagger. They also have high damage output and can hit multiple targets at once.
As the above entry states, don’t become overreliant on rockets. That said, in most combat situations, rockets can be quite deadly and it will benefit you to cycle them into your gameplay as much as possible.
6 Hover As Often As Possible In Combat
Iron Man and Thor are the only characters who can fly thus far in Marvel’s Avengers, allowing them to easily travel great distances and position themselves out of the way of enemy attacks. With Iron Man’s point-and-click gameplay style, avoiding any attacks and dishing out heavy damage is a breeze.
By hovering as much as possible in combat, players will remove Iron Man out of the path of danger from melee attacks and open themselves up to a wealth of attack opportunities.
5 Use Fly-By Attacks
When approaching an attack scenario, or repositioning yourself in the middle of a battle, players should try and make use of Iron Man’s flight-based projectiles. Without needing to aim very precisely, Iron Man’s lasers will auto-target enemies and focus a beam on them.
Although you probably won’t kill any undamaged enemies this way, using these fly-by attacks is a good way to dish out damage early, pickoff weak enemies, or get some easy damage in while on the move.
4 Target Turrets And Aerial Enemies
As Iron Man, you’re the only character who excels at both ranged attacks and flight. This makes you the ideal candidate to take down turrets, flying enemies, or even snipers on the periphery of the battlefield. Help your team out and be the person who deals with these things, they’ll love you for it.
Combining the above fly-by attack tip, dealing with enemies like this, especially turrets, is actually quite easy.
3 Unibeam Versatility
Iron Man’s unibeam assault heroic is a versatile heroic that allows you to make the most out of how you like to play. Depending on your playstyle, the unibeam can be configured fairly in-depth in the upgrade menu. Play around with things like “Omega Beam” and see what you like.
A nice feature of the unibeam is that you can deactivate it at any time, allowing you to save heroic energy if an enemy suddenly teleports out of your way or is unexpectedly killed by a teammate.
2 Hulkbuster Magno-Missile Wipe
The Hulkbuster is debatably the best ultimate heroic in the game, as it not only allows you to dish out insane damage but you are also invulnerable and unstaggerable when using it.
Players should try and acquire Hulkbuster’s mango-missile upgrade as quickly as possible. Although this attack takes a large chunk of your intrinsic energy, no matter how low your intrinsic energy is it can be used. We recommend always ending your time in the Hulkbuster with a barrage from this attack.
1 Hulkbuster “Secret” Melee Attacks
While some players may scoff at a tip like this, many fans have played with gamers who are unaware of Hulkbuster’s hidden melee attacks.
By holding the light attack button, Hulkbuster will unleash a jackhammer-fist attack against a single target, dropping a flurry of punches in a matter of seconds. This is a fantastic attack that all players should incorporate into their combat. Hulkbuster can also fire one of his fists like a rocket by holding the heavy attack button. This attack isn’t all that strong but admittedly looks pretty cool when used to finish an enemy.
