Scarlet Nexus Shows Off New Gameplay | Game Rant

Bandai Namco Entertainment recently gave players a thorough look at the gameplay of the upcoming title Scarlet Nexus during the recent Xbox Launch Celebration for the release of the Xbox Series X. Alongside the extended gameplay footage, members of the Scarlet Nexus development team also answered a number of questions that fans have had about everything from art direction to party mechanics.

The Xbox Launch Celebration itself took place on November 10th when the console itself released, but Xbox has recently cut down some of the more impressive moments from the original live stream, including the Scarlet Nexus showcase. Joining the discussion were two members of the team working on the game, Director Kenji Anabuki and Producer Keita Iizuka, who broke down some of what was shown in the footage.

The new gameplay itself followed a player controlling the female protagonist of Scarlet Nexus Kasane, and takes her on a tour through New Himuka, the city where the game takes place. Players also get a good look at both the regular traversal through the city, as well as an in-depth look at the multiple types of combat that take place across the title’s multiple worlds. Split up between fighting monsters throughout the city and fighting virtual enemies in a more digital realm, combat can take a quick turn into the type of flashy, anime-like style that Bandai Namco’s games often deliver on.

From what is shown in the new gameplay footage, much of the game is going to be based on building a team from Scarlet Nexus’ list of characters that can help fight enemies around an arena, as well as offer up their abilities for the player to use. Additionally, there is a skill tree system known as the Brain Map, which will allow players to unlock new skills and abilities as they progress through the game. Many of the mechanics shown are par for the course on modern, action-heavy JRPGs, with a lot of the new flair coming from the control of the team and their abilities.

Fans of the genre will likely find that Bandai Namco’s next title will scratch the JRPG itch for Next-Gen consoles with its fast-paced action and stylized art direction. From what has been shown of Scarlet Nexus so far, it looks like it has plenty of flashy cinematics and differentiating combat mechanics to keep players engaged as they explore New Himuka. There is of course more of the story to uncover, but it’s likely that fans will just have to play the game to see what the game has in store when it launches.

Scarlet Nexus is available now for pre-order on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
