Gamers recognized the Xbox 360 for being more of a multimedia home theater system than a mere gaming console. It offered various game-changing peripherals, like the Kinect and wireless controller, offering a new type of gaming experience. The system had a high failure rate due to an infamous problem called the “Red Ring of Death.” Despite this, it went on to become the sixth-highest-selling console in video game history.
RPGs (role-playing games) offer customization like few other genres. They place players in a fictional role as a character in a fictional world. The Xbox 360 released an abundance of solid RPGs that revolutionized the industry. These are the best of those.
10 Fable II
The Fable series has been resurrected for the Xbox Series X, but it could be a while until we see a release. Looking back at Fable II, it’s not difficult to see why it was explosively popular. The game is set in Albion, a fictional land 500 years after the first Fable. Since this game takes place in a more modernized time, players can use weapons like guns but can still wield swords, scepters, great hammers, and crossbows. This is possibly the best Fable game released thus far.
9 Child Of Light
Turn-based RPGs have a large margin due to combat systems that don’t always live up to expectations. Child of Light works on so many levels due to having beautiful artwork and an enchanting soundtrack. Details like cast times, a robust item selection, and magic points make Child of Light stand out from other RPGs. This is one of the best RPGs the Xbox 360 has to offer, despite being a game that only takes 11 hours to beat.
8 Fallout 3
In a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been pushed to the brink of annihilation, the player emerges from Vault 101. The vault had been closed for 200 years. You seek to find your father, who had gone missing from the vault after a commotion. This game is set in the wasteland of Washington, D.C., which is now known as the Capital Wasteland. Fallout 3 is a top contender for the best Xbox 360 RPG and Fallout game.
7 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion earned praise for its player customization, which includes ten customizable races. It had a multi-platform release for systems like the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. A Game of the Year Edition and 5th Anniversary Edition released for the Xbox 360.
This single-player adventure joined the ranks as one of the great The Elder Scrolls games in 2006. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion pushed the envelope with scenic places of interest. It takes place in the province of Cyrodii, a place that borders Skyrim and Morrowind.
6 The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings
Often overshadowed by its highly acclaimed successor, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is one of the best RPGs the Xbox 360 offers. It wouldn’t be farfetched say that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is the best game in the series. It starts slow but picks up pace as you acquire new skills and spells. This fantasy game’s protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, has a cunning personality and an uncanny way with the ladies.
5 Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout: New Vegas is a spin-off game that was released for the Xbox 360 in 2010. It’s not a direct sequel, but it uses the same game engine as Fallout 3. It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and developers who worked on previous Fallout games at Black Isle Studios.
It’s often referred to as Fallout 3.5 because of its place in the series. Initially, the game was to be called Fallout: Sin City until it was renamed Fallout: New Vegas. With a rich backstory, Fallout: New Vegas became a smashing success.
4 Mass Effect
This futuristic adventure from outer space takes you across the Milky Way Galaxy. You assume the role of Commander Shepard, an elite soldier who sets out to stop the Reapers machine race from an invasion. Mass Effect kicked off the iconic series, bringing unparalleled RPG elements. The ability to influence the game’s outcomes provides an uncanny feeling like you are experiencing the events first-hand.
3 Dark Souls
Dark Souls often serves as the benchmark for difficulty in games. An RPG is deemed exceedingly challenging if it’s harder than Dark Souls. The game came out on the Xbox 360 in 2011, and it’s considered one of the most influential RPGs of all time. The intrepid protagonist of Dark Souls, known as the Chosen Undead, is imprisoned at its beginning, setting a grim tone for the rest of the journey.
2 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Although many would agree that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the superior game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim could be considered the better game. Skyrim’s environments are lush and beautiful. In every town, there is a new story to uncover and be a part of. This game routinely shows up on lists as one of the best games of all time. The RPG elements are masterful as they give you a high degree of customization and meaningful progression.
1 Mass Effect 2
With a plot involving the Illusive Man, who is more elusive than illusive, Mass Effect 2 works for being all-around excellent. The Illusive Man, played by Martin Sheen, has a goal of human superiority. However, the main antagonist is the unseen Harbinger, the leader of the Reapers.
It contains a gripping story, phenomenal gameplay, and RPG elements nothing short of spectacular. Mass Effect 2 is the best RPG the Xbox 360 has to offer.
