Watch Dogs: Legion multiplayer modes slip into 2021

Watch Dogs: Legion won’t be getting multiplayer online modes this year as Ubisoft rallies to tackle various bugs and glitches in the game across multiple platforms.

The publisher and developer has revealed that it will be delaying all online features for Watch Dogs: Legion into 2021 as efforts are instead focused on fixing various performance issues that have been identified in the game.

Ubisoft was supposed to launch the London-based game’s multiplayer modes in a dedicated patch on December 3, but thanks to myriad issues with the game – including progression-related bugs that halt all progress in some versions of the release – the developer has decided to push the patch into next year.

“Since the launch of Watch Dogs: Legion, some of you continue to have technical issues preventing you from enjoying the game. The dev team is committed to fixing these issues and will not stop until everyone can experience the game as intended,” a statement from the studio reads.

“As an immediate next step, this week, we are releasing Update 2.20 to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia. The update will add a manual Save Game button to PC, as well as bring further stability improvements for Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PlayStation 4.”

You can find the full list of patch notes here.

When Legion’s online modes finally do land in game, they will offer co-operative free-roaming for 2-4 players, as well as a suite of PvP challenges, to boot. The most interesting of these sounds like it’s going to be the 8-player Spiderbot Arena which pits your arachnoid robots in a fight to the death in a small-scale battle royale.

Watch Dogs: Legion’s online modes will release via a patch in “early 2021”. You can check out our Watch Dogs: Legion review here.
